Pixelated Night Cruise – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourselves. Where you are guys from? & What year was the group created?
Pixelated Night Cruise consists of Addie and myself. We’re based out of Springfield, MO but we’re from all over the place. We started making music together back in 2011
What influences your group in making Hip Hop?
I think we both have a bit of a different approach when it comes to making Hip Hop. Addie has a deeper background than I do when it comes to hip hop, influences, and culture. Addie tries to keep it fresh by not replicating anything else that’s out and keeping to his style. I personally draw a lot of inspiration from hardcore and pop music. I like the structures of pop music and intensity of hardcore. I feel like the two meshed together are what make our music interesting.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs & Producer’s?
Our music is aggressive, loud, in your face, weird, and totally different. We create all the music together, so it’s never just one person’s perspective. Addie writes melodies and structures as opposed to just writing 16 bar verses. I feel like I’m a little different in the aspect that I don’t really follow a whole lot of other producers, so I really don’t give a shit what other people do. I just make music that sounds good to me.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
We’ve had a few different colabs to date. Most recently on our album we worked with Onry Ozzborn of Dark Time Sunshine/Grayskul, Scarub from The Living Legends, and we’ve worked a couple of times with a dope Serbian producer named Ogi Feel The Beat. We would love to work with Alan Kingdom, Busdriver, Roots Manuva, and Kevin Abstract to name a few. We look up to all these doods’ music in a big way and it would be great to work with them.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
It’s something that’s undefinable. As with any “underground” it’s something that can be taken a lot of ways. We hate that term, hip hop is hip hop.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
Zavala, Aesop Rock, LP, Kayne West, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and countless others. We do 99% of our own production, we pretty much always work as a duo. Like I said before we worked with another producer named Ogi Feel The Beat. We’re hoping to find other producers to work with on future projects. It would be cool to work with Hippie Sabotage, SBTRKT, Zavala, Sango, STWO, Bwoy De Bhajan, Bassnectar, and plenty of others
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Our Self Titled album is out now, it’s self released. You can download it pretty much anywhere. We got an EP in the works that will be coming out this winter, and we should be dropping a beat tape sometime next spring.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Pixelated Night Cruise? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.
A few beers a sample, or a bass line, or a vocal hook, or something. Then we get started. We pretty much don’t try to ever stick to a particular sound or formula, but definitely do stray away from having a main stream sound. We typically like to use a lot of pop formats, with big choruses. But we also like to throw in a lot of over driven instruments, and abstract music layers.
Our album art is based on the track “Take This Town Back.” We have a very talented friend Chris Escobar. We let him run wild with the concept so long as he based it off the album. I guess he thought “Take This Town Back” was about a giant killer robot.
Where can we find your music and info?
Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Datpiff, Youtube, Audiomack, Myspace (yep, we put it on fucking myspace), Noisetrade, PureVolume, Last.Fm, pretty much anywhere the internet will allow us to post it for free.
