Q&A With Chicago’s Very Own Capt. K’nuckles
Hey Capt. K’nuckles, we would like to thank you for your contribution to underground Hip Hop and keeping the culture alive! I really enjoyed your new album “Somewhere You Won’t Find Me”! Please tell us what exact area code you represent? How long have you been making music?
I am a part of the 773, southside Chicago and been making music for roughly 3 years with my group ‘captaceswami’.
What influenced you to become a Hip Hop artist? What were the main factors that got you into, quote on quote, “Underground Hip Hop”?!
I was influenced to make Hip Hop because I believe it’s the most influential genre honestly. That shit crazy to say, but yee. This not even my favorite genre. I am in love with bossa nova. But the main thing that truly sparked me into Underground hip hop, was dat nigga DOOM. This man dead ass still considered underground, but SOOO many hip hop heads and indie/alternative artist are influenced by him, its fuckin wild. Also, the best hip hop music is in the underground scene anyways, so there’s that.
How important is it for your to stay ORIGINAL? How would you describe your style?
It’s super important for me to stay original cause I seen too many artists who started off so sick, and was truly standing out, but then they tweak and end up making that weak ass trap music, that we don’t need anymore of. Niggas are for real stupid as hell for switching up from being so dope and unique, into jumping into the ‘already overflowed’ bucket of basic ass rap artist with no talent/creativity. But hey, they got they way to hustle, and I got mine; so just stay outta my way.
I would describe my style as to be very alternative hip hop.
Tell us about the creative process for your new Album “Somewhere You Won’t Find Me”! Any interesting features on it?
My creative process comes a lot from poetry. I been reading poetry heavy for the past 2-3 years, and its the greatest thing I could’ve done that impacts my lyrics. I have the sneakiest, deepest, lyrics mixed with the outrageous, heavy hitting production from my producer ‘SP’. I dead ass haven’t witnessed any production like his these days. He that nigga. But yea, everything i say, is what is inside me because thats the best place to look for influence. On the album, there is a feature from the outstanding Eric Sampsun on track 2(Tsul). And also on track 8(Duarf), my brother ace cadet is featured.
In 2018, who will be on your personal music rotation playlist!? Any new artists you are listening to?
I only truly listen to bossa nova on a daily basis. It’s the only music I have in my phone.
How heavy is your Instagram game! Seems like that the social media outlet to be on nowadays!
My fuckin social media game weak as shit, I’m not even gon’ front like its good or anything. Fuck social media, especially instagram, they some virgins. I posted a painting of a half nude lady on my story and they removed it cause violation of they policy hahaha. They some goofs. But anyway, even though my coal media game weak, I been using it a ton more and I’m seeing people actually interact with my music and shit, which they didn’t before, so thats sick to me.
Any new projects and videos you are working on? Planning on a tour anytime soon?
Right now I’m walking on another project I’m releasing in May, along with some single, videos, etc. But in my group ‘captaceswami’, we all are releasing some stuff in May, so look out for them masterpieces.
