Q&A With Mojave Desert Based Veteran Hip Hop Producer GoomSon

Congratulations on your latest Beat Tape “SP 1000 Beat Tape”. What motivated you to become a producer . And how did you come up with your producer name GoomSon?

My Brothers had a pretty big influence on me at a younger age, didn’t really know what approach I wanted to take until I met my mans Masta Cypher Devine. The name came from a shroom trip when I was in the lab one night. Haha

Where are you from? And how is the underground Hip Hop scene there?

I’m from the Mojave Desert “The Dirt”, there isn’t a scene at all only time shit goes down is if we organize it.

How are you dealing with this whole nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 Corona Virus? Has this effected your music career in any way?

I mean besides the gigs I was doing it hasn’t really affected me, I’d say it gave me the ability to bunker down and focus on a few more releases.

What was the first piece of production equipment (harware/software) you ever picked up on? And do you still have it or use it?

MPC 1000, I’ve had a bunch of different MPCs but I always go back to my thowy.

Who are you biggest underground influences?

It would have to be cats I’m currently working with, Grim Moses, Guillotine Regime, Abadon Horseman & Masta Cypher Devine.

You recently dropped a Beat Tape “SP1000 BEAT TAPE” across bandcamp! Please give us some background on that project!? Could you tell me the inspiration behind the project and artwork?

The tape we dropped was a collaboration project where Masta Cypher Devine and myself each worked on the tracks. The inspiration came between the both of us, we spent many nights on the phone really trying to create something special. As far as the artwork we both thought a mini drum machine would look fat in a norelco, it was a combo of SP 505 features laid out on a MPC 1000 hence the SP 1000.

How does social media play a role on pushing GoomSon music?

I personally only like using Instagram as a platform to post beat videos and campaigning when it comes time to drop a project. I’ve actually met a lot of dope people from around the world on that.

What are a few different moves your making for 2020 when it comes to your music career?

While the HipHop events I curated at Stone Brewing came to a hault I was able to sit down and get a couple more projects under my belt, “Build & Dismantle” Prod. By Masta Cypher Devine x Goomson, “Sureshot Demise” Prod. By Goomson, we also have a collab project with Grim Moses x Ca$ablanca in the works titled “Proof Of Concept”.

Our most popular question….What is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Staying true to the roots of underground hip hop, if you’re gonna categorize yourself as such don’t fake the jax yo. Records, Tapes, Analog Gear, & a true love for the craft

Where can our BLOG audience find your music and follow you on social media?

Goomson on everything, I’m most active on IG.

Please give us some background on how you started working with Masta Cypher Devine? Are there any more projects in the works with him?

My brother brought me to his spot years ago, and hell yea we got more shit in the works

Any Shout Outs?

Shoutout to my wife, my brothers, baby Ellie, Grim Moses, Bronx, DJ Rich Rok, & my mans Masta Cypher Devine what up god!
