Q&A With Rising Bronx Based Hip Hop Artist BeenOfficial

Yo BeenOfficial!! Much respect on your latest single “No Shorts” Ft. BlakSeed? One of our main contributors Kevin gave your single an 8/10!!! WOW solid ranking!! Please tell us a bit about yourself? How long have you been making music? How did you get your name?

I’ve been making music since I was around 12. The name BeenOfficial was given to me by an OG from my neighborhood. It was pertaining to me living a lifestyle that had me in trial facing 23 years for armed robbery in the 1st and 2nd degree. I lost at trial and was sentenced to 13 years in prison without telling or even making a statement. I stayed true to the laws of the street all the way through. So he coined me BeenOfficial.

As we know New York is considered the birthplace of Hip Hop, how has your city/state influence you in any way?

I’m born and raised in The Bronx. So my borough had a great HipHop influence on me being that it is the birthplace. Because of that fact, I’ve always felt I had to be greater than average.

About a week or so ago, we posted your video on our IG page, and it got a great engagement! People loved it and hated it..LOL But at the end of the day people paid attention…Its honestly a dope single! But as you know we you cant make everyone happy these days! People are so quick to comment on IG and express themselves as if every person is a critic…LOL. How vital is IG and social media important to you??

IG and social are important to branding and business in general. But the weird shit comes along with it. So just take the good with the bad

Please breakdown the creative process of your new single/video “No Shorts” Ft. BlakSeed? The video was 100% ON POINT, super fresh visuals!!

I first heard the beat to No Shorts in the studio where I was there to record a different track but the file was lost or some shit. So my engineer who is also a producer, threw on the No Shorts beat and I was vibing to it for a minute. I went to smoke an L, when I came back BlakSeed had the hook recorded already, so I just went in the booth and did the rest.

The video was an excellent experience as well as frustrating. The director Luie X is very talented and creative. It took us about three weeks to complete it due to conflicting schedules. But we got it done.

How often do you perform LIVE?

I’ve done countless shows. Currently however, I’m taking more of an organic approach to performances.

Please tell us about your mission statement regarding your music and movement. What do you want fans to walk away with after listening to your music? Also, please describe your sound in the simplest way possible?

When listening to my music, the fans will walk away with the appreciation of the Art form. A glimpse into my life and the life of countless others.

What you got cooking next? Anything special for Summer 2018!!??

I have another single to follow No Shorts called “Ay Now”. And also I have a hot single coming with a dope female artist Named JemStar. So summer 18 will be on fire.

Underground HipHop is the unregulated pure expressions of the culture.
