Q&A With Rising Chicago Based Hip Hop Artist Rikkie 2991

Rikkie 2991, where are you originally from and how long have you been making music?

I lived on the north and south side of Chicago during my childhood and first started making music at 16.

As part of Spice Gang and being the main producer, how many project have you guys dropped with your beats?

We have a lot in store, but as far as what has been released, 6 joints.

Congrats on the new single, Canon-Ball” featuring James Cam’Ron. Break down that single in a few words?

Pure. Unadulterated. Energy.

How did you link up with James Cam’Ron?

We have actually been working together for almost a decade and we met through a mutual we both no longer associate with.

If you don’t mind sharing, how do you make your beats? What kind of samples or techniques you use to make those hits?

I use Ableton Live and use my knowledge from playing in bands to produce. I sample rarely and if I do its usually a movie/video game quote or something.

Let’s talk about your SXSW 2019 run! Where you performing at? Any specific showcases?

At the Palm Door on 6th street! super excited as I’ve never been to Texas. Shout out swank pr for making that happen! Spice by Spice Fest, be there!!

Any new music in the works for the rest of the year?

I have a new single “SWERVE” ft. James Cam’Ron coming and an EP or 2 in coming months.

As you know, this is a underground site. What’s your definition of “underground hip hop”?

Anything “counter culture” rap music is really pop music at this point so anything from a FUBU standpoint {for us, by us} and not necessarily aimed for mass consumption. anything truly for the culture.

Where can fans find more of your music?

At RIKKIE 2991 on all platforms.

Lastly, any shout outs?

Shout out Spice Gang, Swank PR, Mayor Money, Boot Camp Radio, 4 The Real Radio, and the Que and Styles show.
