Q&A With Rising San Jose Based Underground Hip Hop Artist B Flossy
Hey B Flossy, we would like to thank you for your contribution to underground Hip Hop and keeping the culture alive! I really enjoyed your new album “Been Flossy! Please tell us what exact area code you represent? How long have you been making music?
Thank you guys for everything you do and represent. I represent the 408 and I started rapping back in high school but I gained my first interest in music as a child I had a sesame street keyboard that had a recorder that was supposed to help you sing your abc’s but shortly after i got intrigued by hearing my voice played back and music became my first love.
What influenced you to become an Hip Hop artist? What were the main factors that got you into, quote on quote, “Underground Hip Hop”?!
I always liked doing poems in language arts class and from there I started making raps. Growing up in the 90’s hip hop was everything and at its purest form watching yo MTV raps and rap city I always felt like thats sumthin I wanted to do. Underground hip hop appeals to me the most because it shows the hunger of artists and raw talent before the industry gets a hold of them if they make it that far.
Your style and rhyme scheme is super raw, hard-hitting and ORIGINAL. How important is it for your to stay ORIGINAL? How would you describe your style?
I am from the west coast but I love lyricism so I am very diverse when it comes my style I like to focus on content and having straight to the point bars, but I also like having fun with it so I throw some comedy mixed with some smooth slick stuff to say. I like to set myself apart from what everyone else is doing so staying original is a major factor to me.
Tell us about the creative process for your new album “Been Flossy”! Any interesting features on it?
When it comes to my creative process life is the best teacher so I use my past experiences and stuff I am presently going through and where I want to be. I like to combine all those to what I think hip hop needs and what hasn’t been spoke on or done yet. If I don’t have a topic in mind already I just let the beat speak to me. Since this was my debut solo album I felt it was necessary that I had no features.
In 2017, who is on your own personal music rotation playlist!? Any new artists you are listening to?
Nowadays I still listen to who I came up on like Pac, big, wu tang, outkast, Mac Dre, E40, dmx and many more but as of recent I dig Kendrick Lamar and big Sean them dudes are dope.
Any new projects and videos you are working on? Planning on a tour anytime soon?
I am still working on new music and trying to figure out what the next video should be from the Been Flossy album, but I am seeking some venues to rock in the near future.
Out the box type question, If it came down to 1 ALBUM only, what underground Hip Hop album would you consider THE BEST OF ALL TIME!!!???……One 1 album you can choose.
If came down to one album I would say ATLiens is my favorite album hands down.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground hip hop to me is anything that is not watered down to appeal to what’s poppin right now.
