Q&A With Underground Hip Hop Trio Sg603

Hey Sg603! You guys are a dope trio! So please tell us how long have you guys been making music together? Most importantly, how did you guys come up with the group name?

We dropped our first song in 2016 but we were all writing music and freestyling far before then. Our group name started out as “Squad Gang 603” but after evolving spiritually and becoming more conscious of our soul mission in this realm, we changed the group name to “Spirit Gang 603”. We are a gang of brothers trying to lift the spirits of the world.

What separates you guys from all the other up and coming trios in your city and nationwide?

We feel our music stands out because our purpose is to help as many people as possible. We do this to help awaken the masses to the truth, and we feel like there are many Hip-Hop artists who use their music to caress their egos, and glorify unhealthy lifestyles.

In a few words, how would you guys describe your sound? Also, what do you want new listeners to take away from your music?

Our goal is to tap into various sounds to touch a wide audience of fans who would enjoy. We feel like many of our songs have versatile sounds and energy, and each song all depends on the emotion and vibe we are feeling in the creative process. We want people to take away that in the end it won’t matter how much money you’ve made or material objects you have obtained, it truly matters how you treated people during your life and the impact you made on the world.

How are you guys coping with this whole Covid 19 situation? Has it delayed any new music production by any chance?

Covid hasn’t slowed us down much. We aren’t going to let anything stand in the way of the creative process. We have been keeping our loved ones safe by social distancing, but we are still grinding at 100% speed.

Tell us about your Hip Hop and/or music influences?

Since we are a trio we all have our different influences when it comes to music. This helps us create a widespread versatile discography. There are far too many artists to name but some are; Immortal Technique, Tech N9ne/ Strange Music, Kid Cudi, Pro era, Flatbush Zombies, and The Underachievers. As for our musical influences that aren’t Hip Hop; Steel Pulse, The Expendables Rebelution, Pink Floyd, and a lot more.

Please breakdown the creative process of your new album “Glitching The Matrix”. And tell us a little about the album cover concept!

We wanted to create a Glitch in the Matrix by combining raw thought provoking lyrics with hard beats to keep listeners engaged and absorb this deep message we are preaching. With a lot of these songs we created them as singles but realized they all meshed well into a cohesive debut project that showcases our unique style. We feel like the rap game needs more artists using their talent to spread a message that can benefit people and open their eyes.

Your honest opinion, out of all the songs on the project, which is the one song you feel stands out the most!?

NIGHTMARE

We have to ask, with all this social discourse and revolt, protesting and rioting, exposed police brutality toward blacks, how do you guys feel about this? We would love your perspective on the climate we are living in right now?

We have love for every living being on earth, and it is discouraging to see our brothers and sisters being treated unfairly by the corrupt system we live in. We spread a message of love and unity and our mission is to connect the souls on earth while there are many forces at work to keep us divided.

Here it is! Our most popular question! What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

We feel like underground hip-hop is all about community and connection. The underground scene here is full of raw talent and determination. From staying up all night grinding at the studio to rocking local shows and meeting unbelievable talent that flies under the radar..all these things are what feels underground and organic. The on-going creative process and the goal of spreading a message that listeners can resonate with on a soul level is a great feeling, and we will continue to grind non-stop.
