Reason – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I’m from Carson, CA in a small hood called Del Amo. I’m 24 and I’ve been rapping since I was 13 on and off while playing basketball. I just started taking rap seriously about 6 months ago, but I’ve already developed my flow to a point that I am ready to come into the game and wake people up.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
When it’s just over others artists beats there is no real influence or inspiration. I like the beat, so I spit a bunch of punchlines and have fun while making words rhyme. My original music is very special to me and comes from real life events. Things that I have either witnessed around me or gone through myself and it inspires me to share my experiences and tell my story.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
What separates me is I can do everything pretty well. That’s what this tape was for, to show people how well rounded I am. I can spit a bunch of punch lines, make original trap records, club records and real records where I talk about life drugs and things like that, that I’ve seen first hand. I also wrote ALLLLLL of the RnB on this mixtape so I’m showing people that I can make the slow feel good records as well. I feel as though rappers box themselves in with one particular sound, I want to be able to make everything because I genuinely LOVE MUSIC.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I’ve collaborated with some local upcoming artists such as Barrelz, AD from compton, G Mac from Mac Squad, KC Why Not, Rhyon Brown and D Beezey, but I’m looking to reach out to other well known artists such as Ab-Soul, Casey Veggies and Nipsey if possible.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
My definition of underground hip-hop is just people that haven’t made it yet. Underground MCs can be just as talented as well known MCs they just haven’t got a huge platform. Usually their style is a bit more organic but that comes from being independent and not having people in your ear telling you what to make.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
Production wise, I don’t have many influences. I deal with Wonya Love, Dj Swish and Damus. That’s about it for now but I don’t have anyone in general I’d like to work with. As long as you make good music that feels good I would love to work with you and hopefully we can create something dope.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Well “In The Meantime” was exactly what the title states. It’s something I put out in the meantime while I’m gearing up for my big mixtape that I cannot fully speak on right now but I will say, people will see just how talented I am and diversed when they hear what I have in store for them on the next one.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “In The Meantime”? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.
Well I was doing a series called Freestyle Fridays where I was jumping on well known beats and spitting a bunch of random bars. No content, no substance, just bars! While speaking with my brother, he suggested that I put them all out into a mixtape and release it, but I didn’t want the freestyles to be the only thing people heard from me. That birthed the idea of “In The Meantime” in which I would give people a small taste of what original tracks from Reason sound like while giving them the freestyles they know and love.
Where can we find your music and info?
You can find my music at Iamreason.com www.soundcloud.com/reason1990 and you can follow me on instagram at @iamreasonofficial. I also just created a Twitter so it’s just getting up and rolling but you can follow me there as well at @iamreason24.
