Rex The Rager – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I don’t consider myself really from anywhere. I was born in Boston, Mass. and lived there for a couple of years until I started bouncing around between Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida. I would say I “grew up” in Delaware though. I’ve been making parody music for years but just recently started realizing how good I was so I started taking it more serious.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
What influences me to make hip hop music is the revolutionization of the genre. Hip hop is starting to pull a lot of characteristics from other genres and starting to formulate a sound people aren’t custom to listening to and I love it.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I would describe my music as real. Real life! Every song I drop, whether it be about the struggles of every day life or about my night out, my words articulate actual events that occurred and actual emotions I felt at the time.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I haven’t done much collabs because I haven’t met many other people who share the same passion I do. Everybody I have featured on my tape are people I have relationships with outside of music. I would really like to collab with anybody who has an open mind to trying new things and believes in those things.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground Hip Hop – Hip Hop that has yet to breach the surface of the main stream masses but carries an influence on the scene.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
My current influences production wise would have to be Metro Boomin, Heaven In Stereo and pretty much anybody that has that new wave type of spaced out vibe to their beats with the 808’s and whatever else makes me feel some type of way when I hear it.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Right now I’m solely working on promoting my debut EP “Random Shit To Digest”. Dropped a couple of music videos for the project that have been garnering some attention over here on the Northeast. This general area is my focus at the moment but I have my first show at Whisky-a-go-go in LA Sept. 4th so I’m looking forward to that.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Random Shit To Digest? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.
There really was no set creative process for RSTD, hence the name “RANDOM Shit To Digest”. The seven tracks on the tape were never even meant to be part of a tape at all. I really wanted to show my versatility so I was going to start dropping material here and there until I listened to those seven tracks in that order and it just came to me, I need to make this an official project! With that came the wild idea for the artwork which @elistrator did a great job bringing my imagination to life. Just kind of playing of the title and having me eating some massive burger full of a whole bunch of random shit. Like saying “Here audience, I threw together an EP of some random tracks I like”.
Where can we find your music and info?
Soundcloud is what I use. I’m on bandcamp and other sites like that but I feel the cloud is easiest for the listener to use. So you can check my material at www.soundcloud.com/rrtwm
You can also check out all my social medias (Twitter & Instagram) @rextherager
Or my website, which hasn’t been completed yet at www.rextherager.com but I’ll let y’all follow me through the building process.
Any shout outs?
No shout outs until I make it. Except for my engineer Price. He’s the man.
