Sage One “Q&A Interview”

Sage One

-Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have

you been making Hip Hop?

Sage: Well I was born in Anaheim and raised in West Garden Grove and currently live in Costa Mesa. A good friend of mine in 7th gave me and Atmosphere album titled “OVERCAST” and I was hooked from there, but I got really serious about at the age of 16. Been working hard ever since.

-What influences you in making Hip Hop?

Sage: The culture itself is something I really enjoy from the graffiti, to break dancing, to the MC’S, and deejays. We are just a community of people who didn’t always have it easy and want to tell the story of the underdogs

-Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

Sage: I would describe my music as RAMBUNCTIOUS. Expect alot of Boom Bap but understand i love all genres and will not be afraid to experiment. Imagine blending Atmosphere with Rage Against the Machine.

-Who have you collaborated with? Who would like to collab with in the
near future?

Sage: Local Artists: Gavlyn, Vel the Wonder, Reverie, innate and EP, Divina Jasso, Asem Pria, Amanda Moore & Johnny Santos.

Established Artists: Slug of Atmosphere, DJ Premier, DJ Abilities, Qwel of Typical Cats, KRS-ONE, Delthefunky, Earl Sweatshirt, Action Bronson,P.U.T.S,12th Planet, Logic of Visionary music group, & Chance the Rapper.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Sage: Simply music made from the soul. Something you live, eat, sleep, breath, and most of all relate to.

Nothing that wants to be worldwide (with some exceptions) and is ok with living the normal American dream life. Which i am not…Ive got BIG plans for the future. My team and I want to invest heavily in the culture by bending a few words and turning a few heads.

-Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production,
and who would you like to work with?

Sage: Mmm production wise ANT of Atmosphere, Rage against the Machine, Queen, Brenton Wood

-Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Yes! I’ve actually been working all year on these 2 following projects and since my return from Minnesota I’ve learned a whole lot more as a performer and as an artist. Cant wait for the end product!
