Shotta Sho – Q&A Interview

Shotta ShoTell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I’m Shotta Sho and I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I spent some of my early teens growing up in Barbados where I found my passion for music. I been making music for almost 10 years, and have been taking it seriously since 2008.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My influences come from everything I been through and been around in my life. It also depends on the moment when I’m actually creating music like who I’m around or what mood I’m in.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music is very different from the norm, it’s a mix of Hip Hop, Reggae and Soca. I like to call it a fusion. What separates me from others is that my music brings together different cultures and has a very unique sound.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I haven’t really collaborated with any big names yet, but have worked with other upcoming artists from NY and NJ like Jaye Gems, Double BB and French Motts. Go check them out.

I would like to work with artist like Troy Ave., Dej Loaf, Popcaan from Jamaica, and Paigey Cakey from London to name a few.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

My definition of “Underground Hip Hop” is music without the backing of a major label. Underground Hip Hop to me is the music an artist wants to create, that their fans help push, and major labels have no influence on it.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

Production wise my influences are Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Kanye West, and DJ Khaled also from Jamaica Di Genius and Not Nice. I do most of my production myself, but I have worked with producers like Mr. 95 from Boston, Loft Music from London and right now I’m working with an upcoming producer J Math from NJ. I would like to work with all the producers I listed as my influences, I also would like to work with producers like Harry Fraud, DJ Mustard, Hit-boy, and London on Da Track.
