SNK – Q&A Interview

SNK

Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get your name SNK? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I did my first recording in 2006 as an ignorant battlerap kid, trying to battle myself through and into all kind of competitions in the second half of that decade with some breaks in between.

I started feeling out of touch in 2011 and took a break from music to concentrate on my studies and reinvented myself as SNK.

SNK is the abridged version of the old artist name I used to go by.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

When it comes to the content of my songs I am heavily influenced by my life and what happens around me and around us all.
Common themes are search for identity, personal struggles, ambitions and current events.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

For people who have only listened to Summer Of Dreams this might be not be obvious, as there are only small glimpses of this on the EP, but let us say my ‘canon’ music is rather dark and eloquent while performed with some mainstream appeal. My brother likes to jokingly say I’m a twisted mix of Joe Budden and Drake.

I guess what separates me from other MCs is for one the emotional range I am able to transmit in my songs and how I do it. The ability to create multi layered lyrics creating a blur between story, mental images and my message has been praised in the past.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

My only prominent collaborations are Freedo and S.A.S.

I’m very specific who I work with when it comes to my music and right now I don’t have any collaborations in mind for the near future.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

To me underground hip hop is the term used to define hip hop music that comes from independent artists and labels that have not (yet) made it to mainstream.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?

And who would you like to work with?

I am lucky to work with some great, innovative and established producers like Freedo or SVPA X NOVA.

I love most Just Blaze, Boi1da and Noah ’40’ Shebib productions.

Who are you major Hip Hop artist influences?

I have a lot of influences that have made me who I am today ranging from Cassidy, Joe Budden, Grieves, Drake, Lupe Fiasco.

How is your feedback from the public when it comes to your latest project “SUMMER OF DREAMS”

The feedback is pretty good.
It is interesting to see how different demographics react to different songs. More mainstream aligned listeners love “Billboards” while others are into the more technical songs like “Wheel of Fortune” or “Midsummer Night’s Dream”
