Sule – Q&A Interview

Sule`

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

Well to start it off, my name is Sule DeNully, better known as Sule. I’m from Englewood, NJ. I’ve been surrounded by music practically my whole life, but my first time stepping in front of a microphone was when I was 9 years old.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

Waking up in the morning itself provides me with the inspiration to express my story to the world. It doesn’t take much for inspiration to come to me. It can be triggered by numerous things, such as happiness, downfalls, politics, past experiences, and everything else that I surround myself around.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

It’s funny, because I’m still having a difficult time trying to describe my sound. Some feel as if my music is underground, but at the same time I feel as though it’s borderline underground, but still can appeal to a mainstream crowd. This is what actually separates me from a lot of upcoming artist, because they’re limited to one crowd and it sticks them in a box with creativity. My goal on each song is to make sure it can appeal to everyone emotionally.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I’ve collaborated with a few Indie music artists such as Candi Kush, Cocoa Sarai, JayLove, Jabbar Hakeem etc. If I listed each artist that I would want to collaborate with we would be here until next week. But I would love to work with artists such as Drake, Erykah Badu, Jhene Aiko, Kanye West, J Cole, etc. just to name a few.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

“Underground Hip Hop” is more so music that hasn’t been exposed to the public. A lot of listeners tune in. but not as much as mainstream. It doesn’t take away from the music, because talent doesn’t have a label on it, but unfortunately this is how things unfolded naturally.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?
And who would you like to work with?

I collect production from my manager JInfluential, and other various in-house producers from around the area of New Jersey and New York. Production wise, I’m influenced by a lot of boom bap that the 90’s put on the platform. Certain producers that I would like to collaborate with are Pete Rock, Q-Tip, Kanye West, Rick Rubin, Noah “40” Shebib, Cardiak, Hit-Boy, and more.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

I’m currently promoting my new EP “The Renaissance” that released on May 21st, which is available on Soundcloud and DatPiff. I’m also working on my first mixtape “Lifers” that’s set to release this winter.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of The Renaissance? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

The Renaissance was one of those projects where I wanted to make my mark in the world, in terms of lyrical ability. Each of the seven tracks held its own relevance and shared a fair significance that stemmed from events that have occurred in my life. The name of the project “The Renaissance” broken down in a simpler term means the “Rebirth”, which explains the cover art that’s placed on the front the project. We took photography from the Renaissance era, and created our own twist by having a stereo placed in the middle of the village. This eventually symbolizes the “Rebirth” of real music.

Where can we find your music and info?

You can find me on Youtube and Soundcloud (sulemusic), and those that want to follow my moves in the near future can follow me on Instagram and Twitter @sulesmusic

Any shout outs?

Want to shout out God for each blessing that he’s been providing me with first and foremost. But I also want to shout out my mother, grandparents, my older brothers Derek and Blue, my manager Jonathan, my team “YF” and each and every person that’s helping my dream unfold. Couldn’t have done this without the support.
