Tranquility – Q&A Interview

mally - tranqulity

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

My real name is Malcolm Troxler, I’m sixteen years old, I’m from West Haven, Connecticut, and I’ve been making Hip Hop for about almost two years now.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

The creative and artistic side of Hip Hop, which has always amazed me. Artists who change the world with their music. Artists who do things that never have been done before, things that really shock and surprise you.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music always has a storyline written, before I even start writing songs for a project. I’ve always had a wild imagination so I always wanted to create an album that feels like it could actually be a film. So not many MC’s are like that.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I’ve only collaborated with the rap group I’m in, we’re called “Offset.” But I plan to collaborate with other underground artists who fit my creative style. I’d love to collab with underground artists like Kevin Abstract, or Allan Kingdom. But my mainstream guys, I’d be honored to collab with Kid Cudi, Tyler, the Creator, Kanye West, or Pharrell.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

I feel like Underground Hip Hop is literally REAL talent and struggle. Us underground artists write all of our songs. Most hits you hear on the radio every day wasn’t even written by the artist of the song. You have like ten different people writing that one song, while we’re writing everything really showing our talent, struggling to find ways to get as much people as possible to hear our music, without the help of a label. Underground Hip hop is real talent. Real struggle.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?

I do all of my production. But my production influences are definitely Kanye West, Pharrell, and Kid Cudi. I always study what Kanye does with his samples, and how he chops them. The different sample patterns he has in his beats. Pharrell’s production on “In My Mind” was crazy because of how it was all MIDI. Also Cudi produced the whole Indicud Album on his own which is what inspired me to do the same with Mally.

And who would you like to work with?

Definitely all three of them and also Dr. Dre, because Dre’s mixes in his beats are so clean its insane. The whole Relapse CD by Eminem, those beats were amazing. I’d like to co produce one of his beats.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Not promoting but working on, yes. Nothing solo at the moment, but my group and I, we’re working on our debut self titled album “Offset.” It’s honestly our best work and we can’t wait to release it and promote it. A member named Ammar Hamed and me are the ones who produced the whole album.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Mally? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

Tranquility is like the God/King of peace. He helps depressed teens find their peace for a living, and during Mally he’s helping Malcolm find his peace. But Malcolm had a dark friendship with Tranquility’s demon Mally which caused Malcolm to become depressed. Now Mally wants to kill Tranquility, since Malcolm becomes so close to Tran. So in the beginning of the album all the songs are very negative because Mally is the one who is rapping. (Telling the story.) Once it gets to Funerals, things get crazy in the story and Mally kills Tranquility but in the song “Angels” Tranquility’s Guardian Angel, Tuban (Which Mally talks to in Fairytales) and the rest of Tranquility’s angels do a prayer to Resurrect Tranquility which is when he comes back to life in the song Resurrection, and which is why the end of the album is more positive since Tranquility is rapping. The cover art was to show the listeners how peaceful and colorful Tranquility is. Tranquility is like a hippie since he’s so peaceful. So he always wears tye dye. I wanted the cover to focus more on Tranquility, since thats my artist name.

Where can we find your music and info?

All my music can be streamed on my soundcloud at soundcloud.com/mallyraps and Mally can be downloaded for free at my website peacerap.com also my album is on iTunes for anyone who really wants to support me.

Any shout outs?

Shout out to the whole Offset group, Ammar, Kenny, Shemar, and Brandon, you guys inspire me with each song you write. Also Abdel, your poetry is amazing.
