Wil E. Haze & 2Bongz – Q&A Interview

Oxygen Breaks

Tell us a little about the crew, who is Wil E Haze & 2Bongz?  Where you guys from?

2Bongz – Lets clear the smoke to start off. 2bongz is actually an alter ego, of Rabbid. 2Bongz is my “party-centric”, off the handle stoner persona, where I can have more fun than usual with my music. Songs I market as Rabbid tend to follow a more personal tone, while I can exhibit straight comedy and “just for laughs” type of thing with 2Bongz. He is your weedman! 2Bongz is your party-guru, your clumsy neighbor! 2Bongz is just your all around party-animal and I have a lot of fun when he comes to kick it.

Wil E. Haze – I’m a Pot Star!! Naw not a Rock Star, you heard me right a Pot Star!!

I’m King Chiefa Da Reefa!! Mr. When In Doubt, Just Smoke Out…I’m your favorite stoners’ favorite stoner!! Wil E. Haze!!

How is the independent scene in your area? What separates your sound from the rest?

2Bongz – Frustrating! A lot of people are concentrated on image, forgetting that making QUALITY music is actually the important thing. Image is a lot, but it follows 25% to a scale where I believe 75% is made up of whether you’re actually making good music or not.  I’ve met many great musicians down here, but few actually are putting in 110% work. Don’t get me wrong, we have many skilled, hardworking peers, but the scene as a whole…is eh.

Wil E. Haze – Ughh I forgot the question!?

For “Oxygen Breaks”, how many smoke sessions were needed to create this dope album? LOL!

Wil E. Haze – I don’t smoke weed, I breathe reefer & take oxygen breaks!!

2Bongz – I was smoking weed against my will by the end! Imagine that!

How was the concept of the album created? Comedy & MJ infused with Hip Hop seems creative.  Dive into the creative process a bit to appeal to all smokers.

2Bongz – I’ve always been a fan of concept albums and I think it’s an important part of music to be visual as well as sonically & mentally pleasing. When you can give someone a theme or a story combined with some awesome, new music. Then you’ve got the full package there. Some of my favorite albums run a theme or tell a story. Blowing my mind with creativity is a must.

Wil E. Haze – Go to the FTM Records vault at http://ftmrecords.bandcamp.com

I produced all of those albums…concepts is my forte.

Look, you can lay down a bunch of good songs put them on an album and sell them…

But this is artistry. I do this because I feel the creative urge to. It’s a drive. I have a reason, everyone does but… At the end of the story it’s all about frequencies.

David T. Ruth will tell you but I don’t know if they’re ready for all that yet…

Who are you guys’ creative influences?  Rappers, and producers can be included.

Wil E. Haze – 2Pac, Eyedea, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Rappin 4-Tay, The Coup, Total Devastation, RedMan, The Wu-Tang Clan, Richie Rich, E-40, Outkast, Goodie Mob, The Dead Milkmen, Violent Femmes, Willie Nelson, NWA, Nirvana, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Cage, Cypress Hill, Juvenile, Biggie, Big L, Lost Boyz, Cam’Ron, Slim Shady, Triple 6 Mafia, No Limit Records,  Max B. FREE THE WAVE!!

Warren G Nate Dogg, DJ Screw, Dru Down, Da Luniz…I’m smoking this Cheese right now breh, I could go on forever…

2Bongz – I’m a mix of E 40, Les Claypool, and Gene Wene. Haha, but I’m big fans of Tech n9ne, Too Short, Big Krit, and the Dayton Family from Michigan always had a big influence of my flow.

What does Hip-Hop mean to you guys?

2Bongz – Expression! In a no-restrictions kind of way. Feeling the music, making a connection to the artist you’re hearing. So many levels, but just identifying with music lyrically is what I think of when I think of the word “hip hop”

Wil E. Haze – A way of living.

Where do you see your music in 5 years?

2Bongz – Smoking 5 times as much weed, with 50,000 times as many listeners and fans. With 5 more albums out too! Lol

Wil E. Haze – Spreading like the seed of the weed. With the way we’re pushing now…you gon see us on tv herb in hand, bet on that!!

Any upcoming projects, or future works in the making?

2Bongz – My new RABBiD single “That’s Crack” is coming out within the month, in addition to a bunch of other collaboration tracks I did. Plenty of new stuff on the horizon,

Wil E Haze – I‘m wrapping up Music 2 Smoke 2 vol. 2 right now. I have the Official Album in the works as well. Gotta lotta dope (pun intended) producers blessing the album with beats. The album will have some deeper concepts than just ‘weed songs’ but you better believe the recipe will still provide that premium high!! Also got a TOUR in the works!!
