050 Boyz – “Everything 050” (Album Review)
The Newark emcees Riq da Kid, Prince AK and Tru Trilla along with long time associate producer Clinton Place create a entire compilation which also features many of the Garden State’s finest lyricists, including: Treach (Naughty by Nature), Lakim Shabazz, Tha Advocate, DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), Famiil, Ib the Druid and many more. There is also a little UK flavor courtesy of WiseRap. The Classic HIPHOP sound was produced by Clinton Place as he takes us back to the golden era of HIPHOP. The tope tier production guarantees an interesting ride, everything about this album screams crate classic, from the beats to the musical substance.
“Everything O5O” begins with the song titled “Hot Damn” a high tempo raw and rugged intro that comes in the form of lightning bolts. “It don’t matter where you came from it matters where you at” the group chants, meaning live in the moment but look to the future. The old school sample in “Pay Them No Mind” brings out the lyrical goldmine, no hook needed just rapid blows from the group in dramatic fashion. The atmosphere created a war zone as “Concrete Combat” shows examples of everyday life in the trenches. This track clarifies a lot for people that don’t easily inner-stand the situations and perspectives of those living in the inner city.
“War Zone”feat the legend Treach (Naughty by Nature) is a masterful track that creates a visual of what the streets look like in the middle of war. The Emcees reach deep inside the psyche and express their desire to keep that righteous approach of a warrior in tact. “Already Knowing” is certified, some things are a given the crowd cant help but shout this back. Theere are different levels inside the mind and “Black Glory” is a song that connects to higher planes. The raw truth is broken down from the start, setting the listener up for in-depth lyricism, substance, and rhythmic wordplay that shines a much needed light on suppressed knowledge. “Bang” is a fan favorite, the fast pace high energy wordplay keeps the listener in tuned and ready for more. Smooth and mellow tone compared to the rest of the album which gives it a sonic balance. The old school vibes amplifiy the lyrical conquest the artist exhibited.
The Tape continues with “Out Here for Nothin” which demanded respect and let the world know that the vets have arrived and they mean business. “Priest” is for sure a sprinkle of magic from Lakim Shabazz, the legend shows why his words are held close by the culture delivering pure flavor. “9th Inning” symbolizes the last stretch, I can feel the cold streets as they manifest the scene with alchemical lyricism.
“Let’s Talk About It” is another street banger to ride around with raw, teeth clenching energy, holding the person accountable for word. The album comes in with “Get Back” showing karma is real if you believe her or not. The word play stamps the record along with the multi-verse substance by the group. The outro was like a 9mm to the temple, a dead on head banger, great album.
Right when I thought it was over 5 more bonus songs came to light, “Fuck em up” feat the whole squad followed by “On Our Way Out” with it’s melodic hook and smooth verses. “Read A Book” warns people to stop trying to be something they’re not because the repercussions will always follow. “Show Starter” feat Lakim Shabazz gets the blood pumping shouting out Eminem because of the mention in “Rap God” stamping his legendary career. The album ends with perfection in the form of the lucid voice of Steeve Sam. The album ends just how it was meant to be, it keeps you anticipating and wanting more . HIPHOP salute to everyone involved in the making of this album from the production, vocals, mixing etc as it gets a deserved 9.5/10.
