DJ Free Leonard x Ras Kass – “Freedom” (Single Review)

West Coast Hip Hop legend Ras Kass gives us a vivid lyrical depiction on the story of Leonard Peltier, an innocent man locked up for the last 44 years, in this new hard-hitting single “Freedom” produced by DJ Free Leonard.  Crafty, creative and genuine are all characteristics when it comes to this instant classic single. In the times we are living in today, with all the recent injustice and police brutality on the news, this single instantly explodes onto the top of the underground scene allowing Ras Kass to shine and rightfully so.

DJ Free Leonard’s production is remarkably appealing, rugged and raw with a sunny-vibe boom bap sound.  Simple and extremely catchy can best describe the instrumental, along with a dope “Freedom” hook sample setting the tone for Ras Kass’s powerful message.  Playing an intricate part in selling the song, the dope production balances itself out, giving DJ Free Leonard‘s production the opportunity to shine just as bright as Ras Kass.

In review, “Freedom” carries a feel-good vibe that has a tremendous amount of crossover ability. Ras Kass is the perfect emcee on topics like this, maintaining his legendary presence through his underground-friendly wordplay and positive uplifting approach. However, from a lyrical standpoint, you are never surprised when it come to Ras!  He always kills it!!  Much respect to DJ Free Leonard for putting out such a true banger, its definitely a breath of fresh air.
