Eyezic – “O.M.I.D” (Mixtape Review)

Eyezic artist from the Dys FUNK collective originally from London but now a native to Canada drops his mixtape “O.M.I.D” (Old Me Is Dead). The composition was heavy in rap not much balance but very energetic rhymes schemes served for keeping the crowd hyped and involved. The young artist reminds me of a mixture of Lil Durk, Tyler the creator & 21 savage. At 1st glance, the cover stood out making me want to innerstand the concept as time passed I started to see the full spectrum of Eyezic.

The tape starts off with a jazzy production and a repetitive scheme for the crowd to chant & follow along. “What Dis Shit ABout” is a wavy cut that serves as a transition song but I had trouble hearing each word which prevented me from giving the best analysis. “The Juice” auto-tune infused gives this a down south Jig, this composition was focused on production and tone. I noticed all of his music caters to a club scene or moshpit.

The mixtape continues with “Money on Mind” which right of the back gives me a Bone Thugs & Harmony vibe & the concept was able to string along throughout the song, I believe the video will help amplify the visual conception. “Talm Bout Cash” is strictly bars and an homage to Drake flow as Eyezic creates his perception of it. I can feel the intensity in these lyrics as each one riddles off, one of my favorite on the tape sonically.

“Pussy GOT MURKT” is a trap produced record aimed at the double entendre themed around sex & murder. “Guns Cocked” has a full video filmed in a local gunstore visual painting his theme to the viewer. Now as the album comes to a close I found my favorite track titled “Old me is dead” the song created around the compilation atmosphere proved to be the most introspection song on the tape giving it another angle of life.
