GHX$T3EYES – “T.R.I.P” EP (Album Review)

With today’s new era of Hip-Hop recording artists, it’s all about the mystery and mystic for mainstream success. A gimmick. Rising North Carolina by way of Chesapeake, Virginia recording artist GHX$T3EYES is definitely a name that defines mysterious by itself. Sounding like none other, GHX$T3EYES looks to bring more believers to his fastly growing fanbases with the release of his new EP, “T.R.I.P“.

‘T.R.I.P.’ is an 8-track introduction to the 3eyesmusic representative to the world. After building a fanbase based on his raw talent, GHX$T3EYES’ latest EP links with 3eyesmusic to handle majority of the projects production with some one-offs tracks by Astroshroom and MAAD Money, and Miiiikey. A tremendous amount of hunger is symboled in his tone throughout the project.

Lyrically, GHX$T3EYES carries a vintage 90s flow. Influenced by pre-Snap era Dirty South flow. Refreshing to hear a country slang with a dark deep metaphor wordplay. A flow that hasn’t really been heard from since 1996. Signs of a bright future as most of the most iconic Southern stars have started out with this form of lyricism at the start of their career.

GHX$T3EYES flow shines the brightest on intro’s “Ready”, “No More L’s”, and “Glory”.

The EP’s production is sampled-filled jukebox classics that tailor made for GHX$T3EYES old school style naturally. 3eyesmusic constructs a genuinely relative sound around the new artist linking the past, present, and future. Out of the eight songs, the must hear tracks include, “Humble Remix”, “Free Souls”, and “No More Ls”.

Objectively, ‘T.R.I.P.’ has a unique flavor to it. An acquired taste at best. Awkward, uneasy, and legitimately misunderstood. However, at the same time, the project truly defines artistic freedom. GHX$T3EYES constructs a consistent rhyme pattern that doesn’t mimic a rival of this current landscape.

‘T.R.I.P.’ has it’s moment; however, too many flaws overall to take into consideration when identifying the project as mainstream level ready. Or elite level underground at that matter of classifications. GHX$T3EYES exhibits great potential on every track throughout the project, just need more polish execution of flow on every track.

It’ll grow on you.
