Mad Nice x Jony Shelby – “Astronauts” EP (Album Review)

Mad Nice x Jony Shelby drop a new EP titled “Astronauts” the album in entirety was recorded in New Orleans LA with Mad Nice being a DC Hip Hop artist and Jony Shelby producer from NO. The 1st thing I noticed was the album cover was abstract and vibrant, This set me up for the rest of the album as the visual perception guided me through the EP. The album begins with the song theme of the album called “Astronauts”.

The Smooth subtle vibe allows you to hear the lyrical expression Mad nice expels from the jump. I especially liked the atmosphere created by his voice temperature and confidence used in this record. Over time I believe this album can grow on the listener also he will improve his lyrical cadence. This EP serves as an introduction to who Mad Nice & Jony Shelby actually are, as vices of the world inspired the sonic sound of this album and will show the process of evolution as an artist.

As the Ep continues I stumble across “Jamie me” this song has a deep lyrical presence as Man Nice again brings that smooth vibe to not only show off his wordplay ability but his storytelling. The bridge leads into the hook as it creates a wavy star reverb with a melodic hook. The concept of getting away & introspection creates a formula for the soul I can hear the emotional distress in the sarcastic overtones. As we keep rolling we run into “Ghosts” were this magical hook grabbed me as soon as it hit my speakers. In this song the lyrical content was far in between and we got more of the steez side from Mad Nice.

“Wounds” is all about wordplay and fun, I can feel the intensity and fun-loving vibe used to create this record. Now as the “Astronauts” EP is drawing down to a close I especially like the cover and believe it provokes thought, My favorite song on the Tape is titled “Ghost” as again the hook captivated me instantly. Mad Nice x Jony Shelby go out with a bang as the last record “Daffodils” sonically pulls you in. Definitely can be a great visual especially for the ladies. The album concludes I recommended this tape to listeners who like Mac Miller, Eminem or even Machine Gun Kelly. Follow Mad Nice and listen to his new album “Astronauts” produced by John Shelby on Spotify and other major streaming platforms.
