Reggie Rare – “If The Moon Could Talk” (Album Review)

Reggie Rare is an upcoming rapper from Palmdale, California. Since 2019, the aspiring MC has been working nonstop as he’s put out four projects in the past year and a half. He has just released his newest album titled “If The Moon Could Talk“. Will Reggie prove that he can release quality in his quantity, or will he become the next mediocre artist handing out mixtapes for free?

Reggie Rare’s talent is undoubtedly evident on this record. Starting with the self-titled track, “If the Moon Can Talk”, listeners are front and center to here Reggie’s passive-aggressive flow and thought-provoking bars. Cuts like “Wish A N***a Would” display Rare’s ability to rap in an array of pockets. “Just Mite (Freestyle)” is something many artists are missing from their projects, and that’s a menacing freestyle that shows your raw ability! On the records final leg, “4th Quarter” and “Undftd” turns up the heat as we here Reggie Rare rant about his struggles while the entire world is on his shoulders. “F**k on This” is the epic finale that ties everything we have witnessed in Reggie’s entire career. All in all, between his solid lyrical ability, intense subject matter, and versatile delivery, Reggie Rare has all of the vitals to be a prominent MC in this rap game.

Sonically, the production on “If The Moon Could Talk” is mellow and gloomy, which formidably accomplices Reggie’s style. From “Intro”, the soft blues instrumental playing in the background gives listeners an unsettling feeling from the getgo. That same beat builds up and eases into the next self-titled track. Giving the project a feel of sonic unity and interconnectedness was smart as most of it feels well planned out. “Wish A N***a Would” shows Rare’s ability to rap over softer instrumentals while “4th Quarter” displays his grittier side. While all of the beats are pretty solid, my only complaint is that each song’s drums are very repetitive and boring. If they had more creativity, they would blend with the intuitive core way more naturally. Behind the boards, there is a solid soundtrack to back up Reggie Rare’s bars.

In conclusion, “If The Moon Can Talk” is another solid addition to the ever-growing catalog of Reggie Rare. While there is a display of high talent and potential, I wish Rare put his effort into something much larger than an eighteen-minute project. I firmly believe he needs a full-length album to flesh himself out and make an artistic statement. Going forward, I’m super excited to see where Reggie Rare takes his career and if you are too be sure to follow @reggie.rare on Instagram!
