Samurai Shin – “The Prelude” EP (Album Review)

Samurai Shin has absolutely done it again, pushing the limits and boundaries in the comic book industry representing true independence, art, originality, and most importantly Hip Hop!  The story’s creators Mikel Miles and Ivan Earl Aguilar recently drop their latest project “The Prelude EP“, an 11 track album based on the dope Samurai Shin series & latest issue 1.5 The Prelude Manga featuring character “Keith Masaru”.  This comic book series seriously can’t be compared to anything I have ever come across!  When is comes to super dope anime, Afro Samurai inspired story and incorporating mind-blowing indie/underground Hip Hop that fits perfect with the series, its by far my personal favorite project for 2017!  I’ve personally seen the brands growth, since the OST soundtrack, these dudes are becoming stars in their respected indie comic book industry!

This EP starts with some really good beats, allowing the story to really grab a hold of the listener.  It’s about how Keith Masaru’s frustration gets the best of him. walking away from Amir Atsuko & Master Kenzo, then finds a pic of him and his dad (Fuji Masaru), which brings back both good and bad memories.  Followed up with legendary rising and up and coming MC features by Kuro Silence, Torae, Metaphor The Great, and my favorites , Core Demonstration!  All these dope MC’s brilliantly represents the full 1.5 The Prelude Manga narrative!  The track “Two Katanas” blew my mind when I heard it for the first time, truly pushing the story-line and essence of what Samurai Shin is all about! Kuro Silence’s “Some Days” featuring underground Hip Hop heavyweight Torae is another track everyone needs to check out!

The most important aspect to The Prelude EP is that the Hip Hop on the project fits the entire Manga narrative perfect like a glove.  Even if you’re not already familiar with the original story from last year, you will easily become a fan, be curious about series, look it up and get sucked right in!  Just like me!  Much respect goes out to Mikel Miles and Ivan Earl Aguilar for making history yet again, following their passion, doing what they love to do and making it work!  These guys, like I said, are going to become major stars, and I’m always looking forward to see what they got cooking next!

The Prelude is available now!! You can Samurai Shin on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and on their website.
