Too Real – “The Real Story” (Mixtape Review)
Too Real artist out of Bridgewater, MA drops his debut mixtape titled “The Real Story”, The cover set the mood for the album as it gave me an innocent simplistic vibe. The tape begins with “Real Story” I was hooked from the 1st word. I loved the introspective vibe & the smooth delivery from start to finish. The nostalgic tone will paint a picture for the listener effortlessly. I would say it’s the perfect introduction song, it keeps me anticipating the rest of the album. Next song on the tracklist is titled “Oxygen” very refreshing to the ear as the underlining story was about lessons. The smooth free flow lyrics and the magical hook will manifest a dope video.
“Lone Walker” explained Bridgewater in 3 minutes I especially like how he laid his whole life on the line & became real personal with the listeners as they follow along with his journey throughout “The Real Story”. The content in his lyrics can help one gain wisdom along with real insight, pain is the underlying focus in this song but Too Real explains that light is always at the end of the tunnel in 2 prolific verses.
Too Real comes right back with “Dead Presidents” the classic instrumental sampled by Nas’ voice. Dead Presidents is almost like a right of passage in the HIPHOP community as every artist tackles the instrumental at least once. Too Real embodied the lyricist on this one as he came with content that rivals anyone who’s ever recorded on this instrumental. I’m excited to see the growth of this artist in the coming years.
“Power Of The Pen” is a powerful track that sends echoes to the next generation. Bridgewater Emcee showcases his writing ability throughout this whole album but this song will pass that wisdom on to inspire. “Learn how the enemy operates & you can predict what’s going to happen next” was quoted in the hook & flowed seamlessly with the track & production. “U Won’t Know” is the bar for bar vicious, I can feel the raw intensity from BIGGSMASS, his voice is full & he adds a powerful perception to this cut. The production reminds me of a 70s funk vibe & HipHop combined giving it a dynamic sound.
The last song on the album titled “Switchin Lanes” came on very vibrant and intense opposite of the introduction giving it a cosmic balance, It served as a suitable outro closing the album. Follow Too Real on SoundCloud & Instagram for new music & updates.
