The not-so-alter-ego of 23 year-old Salina, Kansas-raised, Chicago-based Brandon Daley, Cool Brandon has a fresh hip-hop voice with a dark, menacing edge, hilarious fixation with the internet, and a deep connection to his emotional lyrics and avant-garde craft.
Brandon’s big rap debut came when he became a YouTube sensation, writing “The Birds and the Beedrills” – a dis rap using all 150 original Pokemon that has since garnered over 1 million views. He went on to receive his BA from Northwestern University, where he famously rapped nude in a public speaking class, created numerous sketch comedy shorts, and introduced the world to his unique sound.
Bringing together a talented, diverse mix of Chicago producers, Brandon explores the clash between his small-town upbringing and big time aspirations – an innocent, lanky Kansas boy caught in a convoluted world of sex, grime, and the digital communication. Through complex and satirical rhymes and no fear of the off-kilter, he searches for his place between his beloved rural roots and modern, pop-culture fueled aestheticism.
