Ed Moe (Houston, TX) – “Baby Boy” ft. Propain

As a 90’s student of music, the best descriptor of Eddie’s(Ed Moe) creative artistic sound is a fusion of blues musicians meets the art of storytelling, greeted by southern mc’s. Historically southern MCs paved the foundation for the lyrical grit content became the platform for southern hip-hop artists like himself. Originally from Houston, TX, deeply rooted in his family’s strong Louisiana traditions and background, Ed Moe’s southern roots became the grass by which became notorious at a young age. From performing as the lead singer of his youth choir to exploring more with his vocals through his verses and wordplay with family and friends, his Southern niche in the rap game began to develop through his interesting tone and colorful play on everyday southern scenery.

Eddie started rapping and singing around the age of 13. Whether it was at lunch or after school, Eddie exercised his passion for music. Becoming that voice which one day will evolve into a message. In his early years of High School the students at his local school knew of his talent and it quickly had spreaded to the music director of the school choir. He never acted on that opportunity because of sports which took up most of his free time at school. After high school he eventually ended up graduating from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelors in Kinesiology. During his undergraduate years he played for the AFL(Arena Football League) for the Houston Stallions. Around his sophomore year he ventured to the recording studio more often, working on his craft. By this time Eddie wasn’t a stranger to the studio. In middle school he and a group of his friends started a rap group called the Machete Boy’s, launching a part-time career in music. Fast forward years later he met Lamonde Granville (Gran), who too this day is his closest friend and brother. They collaborated on a Mixtape titled “SouthernSoul” which created a buzz around the Houston area. As of June 2014, Eddie released his first Independent Mixtape project titled “Ralleys & Vogues”, which is available through iTunes, soundcloud and all Tunecore digital stores. He is now working on a release date for his upcoming project titled “Can’t U Tell I’m Southern” an EP which will be dropping at the top of September 2014.

Like few young men, growing up Eddie took his love for sports after his father. He was very shy when it came to practicing his talent for music until he grew older during his teenage years. However, during his early teenage years Eddie sought interest in blues musicians such as Johnnie Taylor, Al Green, Bobby Womack, Betty Wright, and other 70s artists that mastered the art of soul music his father Eddie Randall Sr. would play repeatedly. The repetition of these soulful southern sounds garnered a new lesson with each listening, which over time expressed to him how musicians related to whatever is going on in his life and provide comfort and teleported through time through music. Ultimately, Ed Moe reckoned that the same people on the records witness the same experiences, and understandings, rights or wrongs that led him to play the songs. The best way to cultivate his southern lyrical platform would be through comparison with artist like UGK, Outkast, 8Ball-MJG, and The Geto Boys with a twist of mid-west flavor such as Do or Die, etc.
The genre of music Eddie likes to classify his sound in is SouthernSoul. A label he branded his sound and direction by which the listener can expect to touch when listening. What does he want you to take most from his message and expectations out of his masterpiece? “I want my listeners to feel like they’re not alone. I want them to understand what I believe in for us as blended culture of people. It’s ok to travel back to those special moments in time through music to cry laugh and love. Whether it was witnessing heart break or obstacles that may have occured in your life, because the worst thing that could happen, or the best moments in life. Life through music are artistic moments in sound captured as lessons learned.”
