Rhys Langston (Los Angeles, CA) – “Iambs in Blue” FULL EP

Iambs in Blue is the second EP by Los Angeles rapper/producer Rhys Langston.  Self produced tracks provide the atmosphere for his densely poetic lyrics— what he coins “Deconstructionist Rap.”  In addition to his skills behind the board and the mic, he also hand painted the album artwork in between vocal recording sessions.

Iambs in Blue solidifies his voice as a vivid translator of personal experiences, which, throughout the project, span feelings of cultural schizophrenia, political disenchantment, and explorations of the bendable nature of language and meaning.

A self-proclaimed author from the time he was 8 years old, in his early teen years Rhys Langston (pronounced “Reese”) half-heartedly started to transfer his passion for writing into and onto the medium of hip hop instrumentals.  During this time he was pursuing visual art and fiction writing more seriously.  However, intuition has always guided Rhys Langston’s artistic and life decisions.

In the summer of 2012, something in himself commanded him to try producing his own instrumentals.  In being able to craft his own beats Rhys began to break away from casually imitating his favorite MCs in favor of pursuing his own unique fusion of poetry and genre-bending soundscapes.  And since, he has not looked back, refining his production skills while remaining steady in his impressionistic rap poetry.

He still considers himself a writer first and foremost and continues to paint and draw whenever he desires.
