Newport News, Virginia artist Shawn Xavien, debuts “Year One”, the first track and sneak peek visual off his upcoming 4th solo album titled, #ReturnOfTheFallen, due for a spring 2014 release. The album was produced by #TheOtherSide and is sure to be one of the years standout indie projects.

Shawn Xavien (last name Hines) was born May 13, 1980, in Maricopa County, Arizona and was raised in Stuart Gardens Apartments located in the east end section of Newport News, Virginia better known as “Bad Newz.” Shawn graduated from Menchville High School, going on to serve in the United States Army until 2004.

A classically trained bassist and self taught pianist, Xavien earned himself a name by crafting top notch beats for his previous ARMY brethren and local VA artist alike, releasing his debut ep Heart and Soul under his Senih Circle Music imprint in May of 2006. Further establishing himself as a top notch beatsmith, Xavien contributed to 2007’s Red Qwiet aka Reqwiem presents, Flames From Tha World Mixtape, alongside producers from across the globe.

In 2008, Xavien released the compilation album, Split Decision, along side good friend and fellow Mc Da Storeytella, garnering radio play during 103Jamz Sunday Night Spot Light with the hit single “Get Up and Go.” Since the albums release, demand has been high for the low key producer and artist, resulting in a long list of individuals eager to work with the man dubbed simply, X.

The unexpected death of his father in December 2008 devastated Xavien, leaving a void that had been the motivation for his music all his life. After an extended absence from recording he released his second solo album, Enigma, in 2010. Released exclusively through Last.fm for free, the album featured several hits, including “Pause for the Flash” and “Other Side of the Pillow,” as well as “After Tomorrow” which was dedicated to his late father. That same year, Xavien continued his work with other artist. His production on Poetikk Justice’s “Poetry,” was selected as the theme song for the National Poetry Awards and his work on the Women Who Wear Blue Genes Soundtrack received rave reviews.

The release of 2011’s Gorgeous Mine: the mixtape, cemented Xavien as a mainstay in both hip hop and r&b with tracks like “Walking On the Moon” and “Slow It Down,” setting the stage for his third solo album A Boy & His Beard in 2012. Having established himself as a viable producer, songwriter, lyricist and singer, the buzz continues to grow for one of Virginia’s premier urban artist. In February of 2013, Shawn signed with licensing technology company Audiosocket, to license his catalog for TV, film, games and other digital media. While numbers have never been the focus for which he makes music, Xavien has earned the respect of his peers through his creative approach and dedication. As he always says, “Music is what it is, make it your own.”
