As the North Carolina hip-hop movement continues to gain more visibility, Greensboro-based rapper Young Stacks LGi has emerged as one of the state’s most promising new talents. Displaying a charisma and versatility seldom seen in many of today’s artists, the self-proclaimed “Beast of the Boro” is guaranteed to shine on every track he appears on. The letters LGi in his name stand for “Let’s Get it” – a battle cry that has trumpeted his rapid ascension to local stardom. In four years, the 25-year-old emcee has built a loyal fan base thanks to his heartfelt lyrics, memorable hooks and energetic live performances.

Now Young Stacks LGi is poised to take his career to the next level with the release of his highly anticipated mixtape, “Encouragement”. Featuring a diverse mix of street anthems, club bangers, potential radio singles and even songs for the ladies, “Encouragement” is sure to resonate with listeners of all walks of life.

Like many famous artists, Stacks’ musical journey began at a young age. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 2, 1988 and relocated with his family to Greensboro, NC at a young age.

It was in Greensboro – a city of 260,000 known for its Civil Rights legacy – where Stacks encountered his share of family drama and urban strife. He first discovered a natural talent for writing songs while in middle school and continued to hone those skills as a student at Greensboro’s historic Dudley High School.

Citing influences from the likes of Atlanta rapper T.I., Stacks began crafting a musical style that allowed him to express problems in his personal life while also showcasing his eclectic taste in music. His verses often dealt with the themes of poverty, self-doubt, frustration, love and faith.

After graduation, he and several close friends formed the group LGi and began performing at local venues. Although this collective would eventually disband due to creative differences, Stacks chose to keep the LGi name and incorporate it as part of his own brand as a solo artist.

The world’s official introduction to Young Stacks LGi came in 2009 with the release of his aptly-titled debut album “This Is Me”. Through 12 heartfelt tracks, Stacks provided listeners with a candid look at an emcee who possessed a keen self-awareness and was determined to make it big.

Despite the fact that “This Is Me” was not sold or marketed online, Stacks would net over $10,000 from this project. The grassroots success of the album was confirmation that he indeed had what it took to become a star.

Almost immediately, Stacks began focusing on a follow up to “This Is Me” but over the next eight months the project would experience a number of unexpected delays.

To satisfy his growing fan base – which by now was becoming impatient for new material – Stacks decided to release his first ep in the fall of 2010, titled “Before I Drop”.

Although the entire mix-tape was recorded in just one day, “Before I Drop” would feature some of his most memorable tracks to date, including the infectious “Intro”, the super-confident “Ask Me”, and the posse cut “Never Been A Pussy”, featuring his former LGi group mates.

In the fall of 2011, Stacks stepped it up with the release of “One Stop Shop.” The first track off the project, Where Do I Go, came with the NC natives very first video which racked up over 10,000 views via youtube. Videos for the bass heavy track “Underdog” and the lyrical opener “One Stop Shop” followed. Stacks was beginning to find his niche.

And with the arrival of the long-awaited “Encouragement,” the world will finally get the chance to experience all the talent and uniqueness that Young Stacks LGi has to offer on a bigger scale. After years of grinding and perfecting his craft, he’s ready to solidify his position as one of the most complete emcees in the game.
