Q&A With Brooklyn’s Very Own Royce Dior
Hey Royce Dior! Much respect goes out to you for starting your music career with a BANG!! How do you feel? Being basically a brand new artist? Where are you from? And what motivated your to jump into the independent Hip Hop game?
Thank you, I feel great! Releasing my debut single/visual, “Love Me”, is definitely an exciting time for me. I was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and immigrated to Brooklyn, NY at age 5. I was raised in Brooklyn and have been living there ever since. I’ve always had a huge passion for music, and it’s something that I always knew I was going to pursue. I made it my mission to create the best records in the world and to do it as an independent artist and entrepreneur.
How did you end up coming up with your MC/Artist name Royce Dior?
Thats a good question. My name came from two things in which I love and very passionate about, cars and fashion. Royce comes from, “Rolls Royce”, and Dior comes from the clothing line, “Christian Dior”.
Have you found the sound you feel comfortable pushing? Having a distinct sound is always a plus in the game. Being as original as possible! Or are you planning on trying new sounds as you pursue your music career?
I definitely have my sound and I have my sound perfected. I started out as a piano player and later on went to producing music for years before I became an artist. Producing music gave me the knowledge in music theory and taught me how to create my own unique sound which i would say is dark, aggressive, melodic and cutting edge. My goals are to create revolutionary music that pushes the boundaries musically, sonically, and technically. I’m always experimenting with new sounds and I’m always looking for the next big step in music.
As a new artist, are you ready to grind it out? Work everyday, stay productive, learn as you go and not let anything get in your way? Is this going to be fulltime for you or part-time?
Even though I’m releasing my first record/visual, I have been making records for over 7 years now. I’ve definitely put in the hours and the grind, that’s something that I have built-in me! Now that my craft is perfected, I am focused on strategizing and planning my career for success. Staying focused and productive is something I have always done well and will always do well.
Tell us about your debut single? How did your single come to reality? And the concept behind the video.
My debut single, “Love Me”, was produced, engineered, and written by me and Grant Cee Flexico. I remember coming home from work one day feeling really tired, I sat down in my basement late night and made the beat for Love Me. I think you could hear where i was emotionally when you listen to the beat. I had the beat sitting for a few days until one day I went over to Flex’s house and I played the beat for him. I had the idea of the chorus in my head already so i showed Flex and we elaborated and molded it into the final product. The concept of the video was to bring color and a visual stimulus to the record. In the video you could see me following the girl and us having a conversation through the music.
Any plans on pushing a mixtape, EP, LP? Any more new videos on the way?
Mixtapes and Ep’s are definitely going to come later on. Right now I’m more focused on releasing singles and getting exposure. I have so much music which i plan to release but I want to build anticipation for a project. Thats how you get the most impact.
Rappers nowadays think by throwing up a few videos up on social media and pushing quick projects, they can blow up overnight! Give us your view on how over saturated the market is right now with so many MC’s/Producers but not to many quality music.
Everybody wants to be an artist nowadays, and with today’s technology, anybody could be! That’s why so many people could go on youtube, get some beats and record a whole project in a week. That’s cool if that’s what you want to do, but it’s not going to get you far if you’re just making quick, cheap music The problem is that so many artists sound alike that there’s no diversity. If you look at the hottest artists right now, they all have a distinct sound. Starting from the production to the delivery, you have to be hands on with everything to get your music sounding how you want it to sound and unique.

Underground HipHop is something that’s new, revolutionary and cutting edge. Most of the ideas in the mainstream come from the underground so I have huge respect for the underground scene.
