Q&A With Rising Minnesota Based Hip Hop Artist Wyze
Whats Up Wyze!! We really enjoyed your latest EP!! Vicious EP cover artwork btw! One of our main contributors CTHREE reviewed it and gave it 9/10!! How long have you been making music? What area code(s) do you rep!? And how did you get your emcee name?
Honestly, its hard to put a number on it because I’ve been creating flows in my head since my pre-teen years. I was always passionate about music and about having the honing my craft. I was always a true hip hop head; I was in love with the culture, and the stories. I think I actually structured my first song around a specific concept when I was around 15 years old but I began to think seriously about a career about 3 years ago. This is something I would be doing regardless if it came with a pay check or not. Making music means that much to me.
I was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota repping the 612 area code.
Growing up people always told me a had an old soul because it seemed I had wisdom beyond my years, and usually made good choices pertaining to life. After a while, people, some older than me, would come to me for advice and things of that nature. After a while, I just stuck with the name.
Us being a LA based BLOG, but of course we have an worldwide audience, we don’t really know much about the Minnesota underground Hip Hop scene!! Tell us about the scene out there!?
People are sleep on the untapped potential of the underground hip-hop scene that is present here. We have all types of artists that cover every genre imaginable! I feel we are overlooked most of the time, because people have a warped perspective of what Minnesota is all about, like we are all just out here milking cows or something. People are unaware of what true MN emcees are capable of bringing to the hip-hop table, but in time they will see what it is.
Let’s face it, social media since 2015 has grown tremendously, especially IG!!! Tell us how is your IG grind looking, and how have you been able to keep up with the high demand on social media? Do you have a website??
Absolutely, I agree, social media is the go-to marketing method now a days. Still, the IG grind is difficult because it is over saturated with low quality content, which makes it hard for people who yearn for true hip hop to weed through the needle in a haystack for real music. So ultimately, I just keep grinding and letting the music speak for itself. Also, I definitely have a website, www.thatsrealwyze.com., It’s all about building my brand, because it is something that nobody can take a way from me.
Please breakdown the creative process to your new “WyzeS#!T” Vol. 2 EP? Who designed the cover!?
Jeremy Eggert, founder of Trend Cities Designs created both my covers, so shout out to him. As far as making music, all my creative juices flow in the morning while I am handling business; that is usually when I come up for the concepts and the flow for a lot of my songs. Afterwards I just keep hitting the studio and dropping songs. When we have a bunch of songs, we take the best ones that paint the picture we want to depict for the project, mix everything, and drop that heat, period.
My first couple mix tapes were very important to me in terms of building a foundation for my rap career to stand on. I wanted to make sure I represented for the true hip hop culture, and myself as an artist. I wanted to ensure that people understood the depth of who I am, and issues that are important to me. So, I put emphasis on including songs that were relevant to current topics, and serious issues that need to be addressed in our community, and in the world as whole.
How often do you perform live?? Any indie DIY tours in the works?
I don’t perform much as I would like, I also like to find shows where my music is similar to other artist.
How do you feel about the whole XAN & LEAN trend these kids nowadays are on!!!..LOL??? Be honest, do you use some of that stuff??..LOL
I’m not the type to judge anybody on what they do, I have no idea what they’re going through or been through to judge. Everybody is their own person. I can say I don’t listen their music, it’s just not my style. Some of the music these kids will make will cross my ear time to time and would sound good but end up with no follow through.

I’m finishing up another mixtape right now that should drop before the summer.
Our most popular question, what is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
My definition of underground hiphop is music that can be expressed in many ways.
True raw uncut emotion, far from anything mainstream. Seems mainstream focuses on certain genres and top 40s where underground hiphop has its own world.
