Philadelphia is a place known for many things pertaining to the history of America. As of recent years entertainment has been a huge part of the cities identity making characters like “Rocky” a household name recognized on a worldwide level. It doesn’t stop with film, as music is also implanted deep into the cities roots. Enter the Philadelphia known to a young man named Farid Ahmed who is very proud to be of Pakistani and Indian decent. Farid had a nice life at home, was loved by his family greatly. School however was another story.
“I was loved at home but was tortured at school. Sunday night was always the worst because I knew I had to go to school the next morning.”
During his senior year in high school, Farid began to educate himself on the history of the Muslim world. Having traveled the globe from Pakistan to India, France, England, Mexico, Spain, Scotland, the Caribbean, Canada, Italy and many other locations, Farid learned about how unfortunately the differences between us that should unite seemed to divide more often than not. It was this realization along with his own experiences led him to create what is now known as an up and coming rap warrior, Politicize. Previously performing under the name Political Assasin, Farid has only been at it for a few years accomplishing more than what many have taken entire careers to do. Some of his highlights include:
“Performing in front of large crowds, working with the likes of: Gillie Da Kid, Hush, Spice-1, having his music featured on several compilations and mixtapes including We Run The Streets mixtapes and being featured on the cover alongside Philly native Beani Sigel. His track “Restless” featuring Gillie Da kid was also featured on the We Run the Streets: Gillie Da Kid addition mixtape. His track “Drinkin on the Limca” was remixed and became the highest played song on the 770 Nin-Jah Lions 12 Tribes Street Vibes Mixtape which beat out re-mixes of songs by: Insane Clown Posse and Bizzy Bone to name a few. He also had a meeting with Thomas Lytle, VP of promotions at Def Jam Recordings.” Politicize was invited to perform at the 2012 Gathering of the Juggalos. Apart from his love for music and producing his own songs, he has also been successful as a graphic designer creating banners for Ryan Dawson’s website called Anti-Neocons. Apart from Assasin’s ability to write creatively in his music, he has also written
editorials for Sports websites such as Sports Kings and Bleacher Report being and avid fan and practitioner of boxing for many years. He has also ventured outside of the US to promote his music being on Radio Fm Karachi in Pakistan with RJ Ali Anwar were he recorded a track in his native language Urdu for the show.
Those are just a few of the many accomplishments of the short career that Politicize has already been blessed to have. His catalog thus far includes 3 mixtapes and one prolific album “Built from Struggle” received much press which included a 4.5 rating in Iconic rap publication Murder Dog Magazine. The album is currently sold on cd universe, iTunes, amazon, and cdbaby. The same publication also interviewed him as well as Down Magazine out of Washington State. At a time when Political rap is not well received because of the watered down mainstream monopoly, Farid has been able to capture an audience with his brand of reality-based rap which is sure to strike a nerve with anyone who has been through any kind of struggle.
