Danny Matos – “Repentance”
Repentance addresses the intricate and interdependent relationships between self, addiction, streets, wealth, and how quickly all four can turn on each other. It is a story that is never embraced by the “slap on the wrist” War on Drugs.
Danny Matos is a graduate of St. John’s Univeristy. He is an Emcee and Spoken Word Artist in New York City where he was born and raised. He has always had an interest in words, hip hop, and poetry, and he began performing in the Fall of 2012. Since then, he has featured and performed at a myriad of venues and schools throughout New York and the surrounding areas. He finds it important to remain relatable through his writing because, after all, he is a human being, like everyone else, striving to be the best version of himself. He believes words and expression give us all a purpose bigger than ourselves, and they foster one of humanity’s most precious needs – a sense of genuine connection to ourselves, each other, and the world at large.
He is the winner of the 2013 Poetry Idol Competition, Co-Winner of the 2013 Inspired Word Grand Master Slam, and a 2014 finalist and runner-up for the Nuyrorican Poet’s Cafe’s Annual Grand Slam. He also is the author of his self-published book entitled “Scratching the Surface.” He is currently preparing to release his first EP entitled “Nothing Without You.”
