Kevin B. – Q&A Interview

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I’m just a 26 yr old from Capitol Heights, MD who is pursuing his passion and dream. I’ve always been involved in music since I was 4 when I played drums for my grandparents church with my now manager Sean Allen. To be quite honest I was never really into much hip-hop until my pops bought me T.I.’s “Trap Muzik” album and that was when I got hooked. I was always a R&B, soul, and oldies but goodies guy. To be honest, I still am. I didn’t start rapping until I was 22 because my best friends were rapping.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

The biggest influence of why I make hip-hop are the things that I see and hear everyday. I like to rap about what bothers me, makes me happy, or what I have experienced. So… basically life!

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I believe my music is very honest but at the same time it can be contradictory. I tend to contradict myself at times because I make music off how I am feeling at that particular moment. That may not be how I totally feel about that topic, but how I feel at that moment. I don’t believe my style is any different from that of Kendrick, KRIT or Logic. I just feel that I am the first rapper who tends to talk about actually working a job, living a “regular” life. I try to cater to the everyday worker and grinder who hates what they do but knows they need that job to feed their family and pay their bills.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I recently collaborated with Phil Ade’ which was cool. I also have worked with Eezy Rollins and Brooke Chini who I think are two dope up and coming artist from the DMV like myself. I would totally love to work with Ryan Leslie, T.I., J Cole, Fabolous, SZA, DJ Toomp and Rockie Fresh.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

My definition of underground hip-hop is hip-hop at its purest state. Before you get to the level where artist are worried about being commercial or trying to impress the world to stay popular. When it’s just for the love.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

I have purchased a ton of beats from Wale’s main producer Flawless Tracks. I tend to find most of my beats on Soundclick and Soundcloud to be quite honest. I like to work with up and comers like myself. Probably my favorite producer I would like to work with would be Ryan Leslie because I feel there is nothing like making a song over live instrumentation. He in my opinion is the best at that.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

I’m always creating so I pretty much always have new music around the corner. I have a few videos about to drop soon and of course I just released my “Late Arrival Reloaded” mixtape which can be found on Bandcamp or Datpiff.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Late Arrival Reloaded? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.

With Late Arrival Reloaded I just wanted to build off of Late Arrival which is what I released last year. I just wanted to give people more of me. My flaws, my relationships, and still showing everybody that I’m a lot like them… working a job while trying to finish up college trying to better myself. My manager came up with the concept of the mixtape cover art, but I love that it represents time which is the most valuable commodity in life.

Where can we find your music and info?

You can always find me releasing new music on soundcloud.com/kevinbsound

Any shout outs?

I definitely want to give a shout out to the entire DMV area, my manager Sean Allen and the whole BLAK Suit ENT family and of course my parents!
