EsZ – “If You Didn’t Get This Message, Call Me” EP (Album Review)
New York-native EsZ unveils his third EP, ‘If You Didn’t Get This Message, Call Me“. The follow-up EP to his second EP, ‘Loose Pages’. Third time around, EsZ unfolds his shortest tracklist to date with only six-tracks and a complete 19-minute body of work. EsZ tells a New York love story this time around as he narrates the entire relationship in a diary-esque concept. Campaigning a theme of love on the new EP, EsZ puts together a tracklist that is multi-genre. He gives listeners something to dance to, something to vibe to, something to ride to, and something to reminisce to. The EP provides a turning point in his career as he experiments on where to take his sound evolving into the next level of his career.

The project starts smooth with “Woke Up, Hands High” and quickly pumps up the volume on the following track “Saucy”. While EsZ is an New Yorker, he comes off really southern on the track and leaves an uncertain outlook on the rest of the project. His dance number, “We Danced for, Dazed all Summer” miss a step in the song’s switch pattern. While his lyricism is exceptional and steady, the production’s blend is chopped up horrible and doesn’t flow organically at all. Leaving the listener confused and unsatisfied with the final results of the song.
Hitting reset with, “To Live The Good Life”, EsZ is on his stylish New York shit that general consumer enjoys from the Big Apple. Its catchy, attitude, and crafty, while he goes into his bag of old-school rhymes tricks. Comfortable the direction of the project, things come to an end with “Touching Base/Your Colors”, a soft finale with the recording artist getting metaphorical to close out. Finishing his portrait with a dream of happiness and calm soothing to listeners mental.
While overall short and sweet, EsZ EP has a few crooked twist and turns that finds him lost in the void with moments of experimenting gone wrong. Attempting to be a playboy at time with his slick talk towards the lady; however, the young Brooklyn-native isn’t clever or convincing with the ladies but more forceful and noxious. While EsZ shows potential with his love story tales like on track, “Going Under”, his most well put together track on the entire project. From the beat to the verses, everthing synch on the track and EsZ is naturally relaxed to have fun on the track and the listener feels that same excitiment.
With the project concept based on the love of a female, expected more depth and darkness between the protagonist and the love interest. Don’t give fans what you think what they want to hear when it comes to love, give them your personal experience with love. Its unique and addicting the deeper an artist gets with their feelings.
