Q&A With Los Angeles Based Hip Hop Artist Johnny Crown
Hey Johnny Crown, congrats on your dope single/video “D’ussé”, that one really bangs. So how did you find UGHHBLOG? How long have you been rapping? What area code do you represent?
UGHHBLOG has been a blog that I have followed for many years and since I’ve always been a big fan of hiphop, it has always been my go to blog for music that I cannot find else where. Rapping and singing has always been apart of my life since I can remember .
I’m repping the LA area 818.
ORIGINALITY is extremely important in order to truly stand out. What are you doing differently to make sure your as original as possible? How do you describe your sound?
Well they say nothing is new under the sun so as far as that goes I will say that I try my best to draw from great artist in the past to help me better my craft . I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel.
AUTOTUNES!!!! Fans are always either criticizing it or praising it! Do you use autotune alot? Please give us your pro’s and con’s about you using autotune? BTW “D’ussé” was fire!!!
Personally the only reason I used auto tune on this record because it goes with the theme of the conceptual album which is called “Drunk”. I wanted the sound to reflect the overall concept. Thank u for the compliment! I really appreciate every one that gives me an ear.
Tell us about the creative behind your music? All artists have their own creative way when it comes to making music! Any pre-recording rituals or workouts…LOL
As far as rituals and workouts , I listen to a lot of Bob Marley , Fela Kuti , MIchael Jackson , Sade Marvin Gaye music and absorb the energies emitting from the vibrations and then go into my zone….
In 2018, what are a few things you are planning on doing differently to continue to grow your fanbase?
Performing Performing Performing .
Any new projects and videos you are working on? Planning on a tour anytime soon?
Yes I’m pushing D’ussé currently and the next single we are working on shooting a video for is “Ace of spades” this will showcase my rap side also. I’m a really dope rapper. I actually use to go by another pseudonym and I have some really dope rap records on YouTube that are conscious , party records, and strip club joints etc but I fell back on purpose to fill a void with my new adventure. It also shows my versatility with The R&B stuff….
Seems like the underground/independent movement is growing extremely fast, so many artists making huge moves not having to deal with major labels. A&R’s now are signing indie artists based on how many followers they have rather than quality music? Do your chase social media numbers or are you waiting to one day get signed?? Give us your thoughts…
I’m not chasing social media numbers, but I do want to be signed by a great label someday in the future. But for now I’m doing it independently all out of my own pocket. Signing to a label is Plan B never Plan A!
Out the box type question, If it came down to 1 ALBUM only, what underground Hip Hop album would you consider THE BEST OF ALL TIME!!!???……One 1 album you can choose.
Best of all time will most definitely be “Reasonable doubt “ by Jay-z . Hands down!
So many gems and it still has playback value till today!
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground hiphop is that raw gritty unadulterated uncut raw super dope beats and witty word play by a Top tier lyricist!
