To get to know Kay Jay you can put together the pieces of his life story that are encoded in his music. “Music has always been there for me, from my mom’s first major purchase being a stereo to my dad driving around switching cassettes in the tape deck while I played with the cases in my car seat.” Kay Jay has loved music as long as he can remember.
Kay Jay grew up as a big fan of Hip Hop and R&B. By the mid 90′s, his true gift had presented itself through a tragedy. He wrote his first poem in 1996 when his grandmother passed away to deal with the feelings of grief. Although it was early in his life, he had discovered the way he would deal with the majority of his feelings and experiences for the rest of my life.
Although he would sing and write poetry throughout high school, it took years after for Kay Jay to take his writing and music serious as a collective. Early efforts were songs sent to dj’s and put on social networks, but once he took the next step to making a full length project it came in a form of that not only defined him but defined how he was different from others. The project was a collective of songs that would discuss life and the choices we make and how it relates to music and it was entitled ” M.O.RA.L – Most Other Rappers Are Liars”. The first solo effort has landed Kay Jay a number of opportunities to grace stages throughout New England where he performs with the “MALADO!” band who musically provides the backdrop for his words. A number of promotional freestyles have been shared via YouTube as well as remixes to popular songs where Kay Jay consistently leaves his mark. Since the release of M.O.R.A.L , some of the freestyles and other unreleased material was released in a collective entitled “Prepared For Take Off”.
An early interview showed Kay Jay saying “I believe I am creative enough to make my life sound entertaining.” That says a lot about others but more about him. The titles of his projects are befitting for this up and coming artist as he always considers his MORAL fiber while being Prepared For Take Off which makes for honest and heart felt music that effortlessly resonates.
