MWD – “Ideologies” (Album Review)
MWD has just released a new 20 track project titled “Ideologies”. This group is highly unique incorporating artists from all over the world such as Africa, India, Egypt, Tunisia, USA, Canada and the U.K. “Ideologies” covers a range of topics from woman empowerment, human rights, religious freedom, nationalism and so much more.
Each artist gets equal opportune on this project where they showcase their talents over English producer MWD’s beats. Each song features a different artist who elaborates on their individual passions. The album’s subject matter is solely focused on conscious themes that seek to educate the masses on the woman’s plight. The most notable quality on “Ideologies” is the bits of knowledge we receive from each respective artist who come from all parts of the globe yet their message feels unanimous. “Ideologies” offers a feminine voice in a man’s world where outspokenness is hard to come by. Fearless and brazen, “Ideologies” opens a new door to self discovery and newfound confidence.
“Ideologies” also incorporates multiple languages in their album. By expanding their lyrics beyond the bounds of English their universal message of equality and freedom is one that rings to the middle east and back. The production style is hard to pin down, MWD seems to have adopted different production styles for each artist. From gentle melodies to hyper trap drums, there’s something on this album from everyone.
Our favorite aspect of the album is that it is woman dominated. There is no place for the patriarchy here. The beautiful ballad that blossoms in their bars is their hopeful attitudes towards the future of womankind. They leave no room for misunderstanding of their messages with track titles such as “Life of a black man”, “Proud Muslimah”, “Laugh in the face of adversity”, “Islamic female freedom fighters”, “Letter to an islamaphobe” and “red white & blue”. Their bravery in speaking out about one of the most controversial religions in the world demonstrates their pride for their beliefs and their love of country.
