Mike Lo’s New Video “Ms. Conception” Coming Out Sept. 15th
Chicago, whose youth oriented rap scene is known for gangs and violence, is a strange breeding ground for a young rapper focused on creativity, positivity and the finer things in life. Mike Lo grew up in the burbs outside the windy city, where he was exposed to the hardships of life so often glorified by the native rappers. This diversity acted as a bouncing board for Lo, who decided to orientate himself toward a new way of life instead of treading the misguided path of many of his peers.
It was during his volatile coming-of-age when Lo made the decision to fall out of the negative influences surrounding him and pursue his dream of making feel good music. In his own words, “I am ready to do whatever it takes to make a positive stance in the music industry.” This new direction seems to have informed his creative output which has grown more and more focused in the past few years starting with the collaboration of Taylor Gangs own Chevy Woods in the hit single “Keep It Real” along with a few tweaks, resulting in Chicago Rap News listing Mike as one of the 6 Midwest Artists to Watch for in 2014 along with Chance The Rapper and Jon Connor.
Lo’s creative process starts with the beat. Whether it is aggressive or reflective, Mike explains “the idea is to tap into the raw energy of the music and produce lyrics that enhance the vibe.” His newest single, “Ms. Conception”, deals with relationships and how quickly the rose colored glasses in new love wear thin when people start to get to really know the other person standing in front of them. It is a commentary on women who pretend to be one way and then quickly change once the initial sweep of the romance starts to fade – and the frustration that ensues. The bouncy Pop nature of the song is set to put Mike in the doorway of the mainstream hip hop scene and its subject matter is relatable to almost anyone who has experienced the highs and frustrations of young love.
