ILL BIZ (South Florida) – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
All over South Florida, Palm Beach County mainly. I started writing and recording Hip Hop in 2011, but I’ve always been a musician, actually, I started in the Hardcore/Punk scene.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
Just like everything going on around me really. Encounters with people in the industry. And Mushrooms.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I make an effort to not rap about shit I dont have or dont do. I feel like thats so outplayed in the industry locally and mainstream. Dont get me wrong, I’m all about partying, cars, alcohol and sex, but if you dont actually do what youre talkin about, dont waste time and money recording it until you do
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I’ve been really conservative with collabing so far. I want to eventually collab with someone that can make a refreshing, yet catchy record that will expand both of our followings. If youre reading this and you meet the criteria, get at me.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Any hiphop/rap that is on a completely different brainwave than mainstream radio/common club rap. I feel like most people who only jam club rap in their cars either dont care for music, or theyre brainwashed zombies who cant think outside the box society tries to place us in. I can literally go on for days about this man, but yea I will forever love and support the underground with every bit of my soul.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?
And who would you like to work with?
Ah man, I take in bits and pieces from a lot of different artists/producers. Lately I’ve honestly just been using beats from various underground producers who have reached out to me or vice versa.
I do all of my own editing, mixing and recording out of my house.
The only producer I can immediately think of working with is GILA MONSTA. Sometime soon hopefully
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I’m kinda all over the place right now working on a lot of different stuff, but a new EP could be expected within the next month and a half, with some videos before that. The best way to stay on top of it is follow my Instagram @illbizzy and subscribe to www.youtube.com/illbizhiphop
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Blunts N Brass Monkey? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.
I really wanted to drop something that I personally would want to jam every single day. In my car, at a party, skating, BMXing, whatever. It gives you a little bit of who I am, but more importantly, what I’m about, and not about. It took a lot of blunts, lots of brass monkey, shrooms, and time in my studio.
I originally wanted the album art to be simple and plain but to the point, and it kinda evolved into what Crash Bandicoot would paint while on acid.
Where can we find your music and info?
I’m really active on Soundcloud so best thing to do is follow that soundcloud.com/ill-biz
