Kash Masarri – Q&A Interview

Kash Masarri - Q&A

Chicago Hip Hop might just have a new hero in their city and we are talking about you? When did you decide to start making Hip Hop? Who influenced you? How did you get the name Kash Masarri?

Salute 1000. I started making hip hop at the age 11,12. I didn’t really start recording until a few years later. I was influenced by what was going on around me. A lot of real situations happening at an early age made me wanna have a voice. My big bro Beasey really influenced me to take it serious and h whelp we me cultivate my talents. He was 7 years older than me so I’ve been around older crowds and OGs all my life. I got the name Kash when I was 14 at a job I was doing for the summer and it just stuck with me. Masarri came when I linked with my homie Swayze. Masarri meaning Arabic for money just gave the name the full ring to it. First name, Last Name.

We notice you represent your city of Chicago proudly. From the south side of Chicago’s infamous 79th street gives us a quick verbal glimpse on how life is out there?

Livin off 79th prepared me for life early, I had to grow up fast. Being sharp, on point somethings I learned because one wrong move u could go to jail or lose your life in a second. With the culture of the city being what it is from the gangs to police corruption, I just get money and do me. Ima make opportunities for my family and my team. Make a a real difference in the community, but it’s one step at a time tho.

Congrats on the success of your latest EP, “Rose From The Ashes”. Feel free to breakdown the creative process of the project. (features, production, etc). How long did it take to complete this EP

100. On the feature tip I just had my homie Turestrl on a few joints, who is also the creative director. For my production I used a few different producers but two tracks on the tape being “Gangsta” and “So Cold” were done by my boy Andrew Cartel, and we got a crazy project on the way. I really decided to drop he tape in honor of my big bro Beasey for his bday on March 7th, just to pay homage to bro. I already had a ton of music and something just told me to Go…So here you have it “Rose From The Ashes”.

Are you planning on releasing any videos to complement “Rose From The Ashes”.

Ima shoot vids for damn near everything. It’s just timing Sumo vid coming soon tho.

What are your plans on getting your music out of Chicago and let it circulate throughout the nation?

Ima just keep pushing, treat the music business like the trap. Same mindset just different hustles. And as far as getting out of Chicago, Ima be doing work with everybody, features, cross promoting and networking. I’m in LA right now.

Recently Bernie Sanders supporters put Chicago on the spotlight politically by shutting down a Donald Trump Rally. How do you feel about that? If your voting which we would highly suggest who will you vote for? We are curious to know.

I feel like Chicago just showed how united we can be for the same cause. We get on the right track with the violence in the city, shit maybe mfs a get more money. Some mfs just broke and mad . Vote Uncle Bernie tho.

Our most popular question. What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

Underground hip hop to me means a being free to express how you feel about Anything. Not caring if it’s ok for the radio. Doing it for the love of the art rather than the glamour & goofy shit that come with being called a “rapper”.
