O Billz – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I don’t like wearing socks on wet floors lol. But na I’m just a person that wants to succeed more in life and create a better scenery for myself. I grew up in Brooklyn/ Manhattan New York City. I original started making Hip Hop when I was in the 6 grade. That was the time where i first composed my own lyrics.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
I think the people who are in the same field as me; people with creative ideas and that are not afraid to go out of their element to try something different. Not only that but, listening to the fans feedback on what I should do better and what they liked about my previous work. Also I think underground/ old school Hip-Hop influenced me a lot because that was the only type of music I would listen to as a young child and thats also how I developed my flow and lyricism.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I always think of my music as something very artistic and it’s something I take very serious. For the most part it is sometime of banger/ turn up music but at the same time, it does have a meaning. And I think that is one thing that separates me from other MC’s. A lot of so-called “artist” just make music with no true meaning behind it and wanna follow another persons wave. Thats not me, so I’m establishing my own wave now so people can get a full understanding of my movement,
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
The people I have collaborated with were, GRM, Kidd Cassper, Cameron Butler and Sidewalk Kal. I would like to collab wit with other underground artists like Xavier Wulf and Key!. But in the near future I really want to work with Jay-Z and Danny Brown.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground Hip-Hop is like a cooler form of mainstream music. The only difference is, with underground music in general, you can expand more on what you wanna say in your music. A person can make a track 1 minute long and you can make a track 8 minutes long if you really want. Their really isn’t any limitations to what wanna do with your music.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
I don’t really have big influences on the production, I just like to work with producers that have their own sound, nothing fabricated. But for 2015 I’m going to start producing my own tracks, and mainly working with 2 producers. Genshin and Lil Glo Fendi aka Icey Twat.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I actually do, I’m in the process of creating my next project called “Elegant Trap.” I don’t wanna release any dates yet, but hopefully It can be released around the summer time.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of your DARK VISIONS Mixtape? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Mixtape Cover Art.
Well first off, Dark Visions took me about 6-7 months to finish creating and making sure it comes out right to the public. But Dark Visions was about me going through some real deep stuff. I was going through depression that no one knew about and I felt boxed in a world of bullshit. The writing process came randomly when made it easier for me to create each song even if it took a while. Each track has its own different mood, and I used those feelings to create an Intricate project. The no face art work was actually me when I had an afro and I use to wear a bandana. The concept behind the mixtape cover art is basically, people are afraid to face their fears and problems that they have on a regular bases. And for the most part, the public is blind to the things that goes on around them.
