Q&A With Chicago’s Rising Hip Hop Artist Cloak The Scribe

Wow. Cloak The Scribe! We really enjoyed your single “Diamond Clear”!! How long have you been making music? What area code(s) do you rep!? And how did you get your emcee name?

I’ve been creating music since 2006. I released my first mixtape titled “Life Music” back in 2008 (back when MySpace was popping). It was supposed to be a series but things went left and life got a little more stressful. My area code I rep is 773. From friends and family telling me I wore hoodies like a cloak and I eventually added the Scribe because of my love for writing.

Us being a LA based BLOG, we don’t really know much about the Chicago underground Hip Hop scene!!  To know there is an up and coming artist like yourself reppin the CHI, just goes to show the state is in good hands!!!  Tell us about the scene out there, and how has your city influenced you’re in any way?

The Hip-Hop Scene here in Chicago is rich. Very rich. Dates back as far as the late 80s (If I’m getting the history correct). From the countless number of Hip-Hop Artist to Hip-Hop based organizations (to many folks to name and number) the Independent Scene is one you’d have to come see for yourself. You will not be disappointed. My city has impacted my music greatly thus the reason you’ll here much of our slang used within my delivery.

Lets face it, social media since 2015 has grown tremendously, especially IG!!!  Tell us how is your IG grind is looking, and how have you been able to keep up with the high demand on social media?  Do you have a website??

My IG “grind” as it goes is impeccable. Over 8,000 plus followers, possible 10,000 lurkers, and varying in background who have one thing in common which is their like of my music and message is incredible. I recently designed my website which can be found in my BIO section of my IG which houses all my social media as well as the varying places where my music can be purchased, downloaded, and heard.

Please breakdown the creative process to your latest single!  We are looking forward into reviewing it!

At the risk of sounding corny I prayed before I wrote anything and just let the beat play. To be real I’m still very old school when it comes to preparing a song to release to the public. I’m overly meticulous about it honestly.

How often do you perform live?? Any indie DIY tours in the works?

I do my best to perform at the 10 – 30 times out of the year due to 9-5 constraints. Sucks at times but until I’m a little more well-known it’s what I have to do. Yes I’m currently looking to partner with a touring company.

How do you feel about the whole XAN & LEAN trend these kids nowadays are on!!!..LOL??? Be honest, do you use some of that stuff??..LOL

I do not condone drug use of any kind. Coming from where I’m from as well as my up bringing, and experiences drug use is not the move. It does way more harm to your body than what they tell you.

What you got cooking next? Any special for the new year 2018!!??

Concert/release party for my album “Dreams of a Giant” (available now on all digital platforms). Traveling to all the major festivals to network and pass out the album. Videos for all the singles from the album.

Where do you see yourself if 5yrs (2023)?

Music journalism, Film Writing, consulting firm and independent record label.

Where can fans find your music?  Drop all link!!

My debut album “Dreams of a Giant” is now available on all digital outlets.
