Q&A With LA Based Underground Artist Orb Nox

We are extremely excited to have featured your latest single “I Love My City”, being an artist we never of heard before this, please tell us who is Orb Nox?

I’ve been called Orb for over 19 years now in the streets of Echo Park, Los Angeles as I was a graffiti artist in a cool crew bringing pieces and murals to the community.
I added the “Nox” meaning “Night” in Latin since I love the night time after I recently decided to take music professionally.

Where part of LA are you from? How did your Hip Hop brand come about?

Born and raised in the Echo Park Community of mostly Hispanic neighborhood cats and gang bangers, what we call “The Hood” I appreciate all the good and bad experiences I got from the streets.

We notice your style is super original and very creative. Let us know how your style if different than all the rap artists out there! Do you use auto-tune often??

Well, the future music I’m about to release talks about our soul getting abducted, to being controlled by machines, to see the truth through psychedelics, Just a taste of my diversity. No topics of limits, I like taking shit to uncharted areas and focusing on quality melodic music that could move people, because music is nothing without rhythm.

ROLLING LOUD!!! Seems to be the one Festival all artists want to be a part of!! Any plans on getting on a festival on that scale? Are you touring this 2019 year?

Those festivals are amazing in the sense of felling the unity in masses, being realistic as of 2019 it won’t happen, but I have some tracks I’m working on that will be what the underground hip-hop cats will be happy for. 2019 I won’t be touring, as of yet I’m just focused on writing and finishing up my songs that way my people could receive the optimum.

Let us know about the creative process behind your new single “I Love My City”, along with the video production work?

“I Love My City” was just a general intro song to my music library. You could call it a PG-13 family-friendly song to what I’m really about. I made this song a positive lyric track that talks about the beautiful things you could experience in a city anywhere in the world. I tailored it to Los Angeles because there was a lot of intimate lyrics I couldn’t avoid.

When are you planning on dropping an official album in 2019?

Probably not anytime soon. I don’t believe in Albums, only in singles as an independent artist, because being from the gutter money is always an issue in dropping music, and albums these days are not worth it unless you have a good budget. So I just plan to drop singles because I put a lot of work in one song.

Being an LA-based artist, are there any Hip Hop influences you have in the underground game that is based out of LA?

For sure one of my Top 10 Hip-Hop Artist is Sick Jack from the Psycho Realm and you know I can’t leave out Sick Duke. Since “Psycho City Blocks” Jack back then was like a radio alien reception of intelligence giving you the information while Duke was the enforcer. And of course, Pac was like my father figure, even though he was from different locations, and more commercial than underground. Those are my mains from LA.

How does social media playing a role in your success? How are fans/supporters helping your movement?

Well, who couldn’t say social media doesn’t have part of their success these days unless you’re off the grid lol. As of now, my fan base is very small but learning marketing is extremely important for the indie artist on low budgets. As of fans supporting me, their just waiting for the fire. I believe if you put out quality and take action in getting it into people’s eyes, you will grow. Easy formula. I ain’t stopping any time soon so eventually, success will come.

With this being an underground hip hop site, we always ask this important question. What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

Well, I’m all about #theresistance the lower class, the people in ground-zero, anti-NWO, but I’m also about innovation and futurism which all mixes in life. Underground Hip-Hop to me is special and could be a place where artist roams under the spotlight, the system, as a united community. #underground
