Q&A With Rising Hip Hop Artist Lazy-E

Hey Lazy-E! Much respect on your new single. We appreciate solid music, especially from true up and coming MC’s. Please tell me how long have you been rapping? Where are you from? Do you remember where you were at exactly when you wrote your first track!!??

Hey thank u for the compliment and giving the music a chance mos def appreciated!!

So I have been messing with words since a kid but I started essentially rapping when I was 15 and am about to be 25 this year. I’m from Illinois and am still currently here in Round Lake Beach. For my first track hmmmm that’s tough I couldn’t tell u where I wrote my first one, but I can say that my first time recording was at my main homie’s crib. We didn’t know much so we used to just record anywhere like closets basement even the classic bathroom recordings u name it.

We have to ask, how did you come up with your artist name!? We hate to sound cliche, but it really does stand out!!

So I was actually stuck on my rap name for so long because I couldn’t think of one that really resonated with me and with what I wanted to do. I have a lazy eye and really wanted to incorporate that and really play off that bcuz it’s been my whole life and it’s part of who I am, and I remember telling another one of my close friends about it and instantly he was like Lazy E and it really stuck with me.

Your style and rhyme scheme is super raw and different! Reminds me of RUSS!!  How do you describe you sound? How long did it take for you to find your sound?

I’d have to say that when it comes to the “Sound” I go for either easy going melodic rhythms with a bunch of dynamic or more of a syllable scientist choppy flow if I want to be more aggressive and I think I’ve always chosen these routes ever since I started, but recently the past couple years have started to master my style and technique.

Tell us about your Hip Hop and/or music influences? Any Illinois influences? Was there anyone in your life that motivated you to STEP IT UP when it comes to making dope Hip Hop?

To this day I’m still being influenced by many artists all over I don’t like to narrow my taste in music so even though I make hip hop music that’s not the only kind of music I listen to and draw inspiration from. When it comes to Illinois I am of course influenced by the pioneers like Kanye West, Chief Keef, Common, R.Kelly the list goes on but the Chicago area in my opinion is one of the absolute most diverse places you can take notes from. My girl and my team at Studio Kai mos def are my motivators, there really is nothing that can stop you when you have great support.

Please breakdown the creative process of your latest single “M.O.T.W”.

A couple years back I reached out to a producer team named (COMP_KEYZ) and we’ve been really tight ever since. I’ve made countless of songs with them and one day I asked if there was anything new I could vibe out too and what I got was the beat for M.O.T.W. I listened to it a couple times and then I came up with the “way way way wayyy yeah hey” and really from there the rest of the song came pretty quickly, I feel that once I got the hook flowing is when I knew what I wanted to do.

What are you looking forward to for 2018? Anything you going to be doing differently compared to past years?

2018 is probably gunna be my best year in terms of releasing music. In the past I always would just release music to release it and over the couple years of working with Studio Kai I’ve gotten a lot more organized in my plan of attack and with my ways of thinking and am hoping to really make some smart moves this year. I have a project coming out May 18th titled “ Elevator Music 2 Mars “ I will be releasing an all animated music video with the help of Empirius Motion & Graphic Design which I’m crazy excited about and really the project is going to be a collective of ambient textures and unique wordplay, opposite of the single M.O.T.W in the way that it is a little bit more serious music.

How often do you perform LIVE? Any shows lined up in the near future?

I haven’t performed live since I took 3rd at Coast 2 Coast contest in Denver, it was actually my very first time on a stage and I performed my first single “Cyrax” which you can hear on my soundcloud. I decided that I was good enough to turn a crowd up and just needed to expand my playlist. I think that after I release the new project I will be doin more live events!

Where do you see yourself in 5yrs time?

In 5 yrs I see myself touring my music around and really establishing a legacy.

Here it is! Our most popular question! ”? What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

My definition of underground hip hop?? hmm I’d have to say it’s kinda of a gray area with no rules where creativity can strive.
