Stevie.B – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I am Stevie or Stephen, I’m from North Carolina and I fell in love with the arts around age 10, I’m now 14 and I started in hip hop back around 2012, I believe that’s when I wrote my first song. But I write poetry more often than hip-hop, as a matter of fact I might release an entire mixtape of just poetry!
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
My influences are the other adolescents that deal with these struggles that I try to portray in music, ya know? I’m not doing this for myself, I just wanna help at least one person. I do this for the people who came to me saying I inspired them, they really humbled me.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
My music? Aside from my mid-pubescent voice hahahaha! Nah but, I am 100% clean, that way more young adults will listen to what I have to say, I am only 14, and I’ve seen a lot of things and done a lot of things that a lot of people my age shouldn’t have. I won’t make a song just to make it, I will make a song and try to speak to somebody with it.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
Right now I’ve only done a few collabs, two with a very close lady friend of mine, Dakota, who has an amazing voice. I have one more coming out with my buddy Seenote from Canada so be on the lookout for that. My dream collabs are Sam Smith, J. Cole, Chance The Rapper, & Sia. I’m hoping to realistically collaborate with The BROODS, Raz Simone, & QuESt sometime.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground Hip-Hop? The people who go unnoticed no matter how hard they work, whether they’re dope or they’re wack, underground is when you don’t get a single look for no reason.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
Production? Haha that’s mostly me, I buy beats from SeriousBeats.com and remix a couple of songs, but in the future, I’d like to work with 6ix over at VMG and JayWan over at UMG one day.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Nothing current right now, I can tell you that the summer will have a lot of new music, I have a Fire Squad Remix coming out soon, and a Stay With Me Remix, both of those have been confirmed to be released in the near future. I’m holding off on another mixtape right now and mostly just dropping the music that I feel, I hope to perform my first live show this summer or fall. But I can guarantee you that I will have an announced mixtape release date by 2016, but right now I won’t give out anymore details. Like I said, I want to release a poetry mixtape.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of The Mixtape “Constellation”? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.
Constellation wasn’t my own process, I wanted to make something that people could make their own understanding of. I wasn’t trying to get anything across besides the fact that I want to help & inspire. It was all a dream, if I had to get one thing across, then it was shoot for the stars, man. And I’ll be honest, I had the cover art made and I literally just told the guy to make it dope haha, so not really and concept or idea.
