Turbeazy – Q&A Interview
-Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
Well, I’m 20 years old and I’m Sent from my iPhone
-What influences you in making Hip Hop?
I would have to say life influences me to make hip hop. It’s my stress reliever. Writing music acts as a outlet to reflect on all of my good and bad experiences and situations. It’s as if I have to listen to one of my songs to remember what happened at a certain time in my life or during a particular relationship.
-Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I think most people rap about the same things, and it’s hard to put yourself in a class of your own. My sound is what sets me apart though. I like to try new things, and most MCs are afraid of change or try not to change too much or they run the risk of losing themselves. I feel like no matter what I try, I’m just me; you can’t find another Turbeazy. My music is me and you won’t find another MC that sounds like me.
-Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I have collaborated with mostly my friends: Kali Mac, Mike EO Guru, Zay Chino and Ten40one. Ten40one and I also did a couple of collaborative mixtape projects, Lyfetime and Lyfetime 2. In the near future, I want to collab with a lot of talented people. If I had to narrow it down to five, I would say Fall Out Boy, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Erykah Badu, and OG Maco, his energy is crazy.
-Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
My definition of Underground Hip Hop is original hip hop. Underground Hip Hop is all that a rapper has to give. It’s just him. It’s raw, it’s real; there’s nothing like it. I feel like the way the music industry is, it changes people. Rappers that make it to that other side become new people. Wiz Khalifa was an underground rapper with quality music. His current music doesn’t even compare to his old stuff. It isn’t original anymore. It’s just another radio song or MTV Jam. It’s sad to some of his old fans that ran with him back in the day.
-Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?
My influences…wow. I’m not sure. I’m more influenced by particular eras of music rather than a particular person. I love the late 80s/early 90s. In more recent times, I like Kanye West, definitely. I like Pharrell. I mean, the list goes on and on. My music is mostly produced by Ten40one and CVSSO. They’re pretty much our in house producers. I’ve been rocking with them for a minute.
-And who would you like to work with?
I would love to work with Kanye. He’s a musical genius, no way around it. I think he’d create something for me that’s never been heard before.
-Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I have a mixtape out right now called Slow Down. I’m also dropping a track once a month on a Thursday. I call it Thursday Turbday. This is in anticipation of my Too Fvst EP set to be released sometime in 2015. It takes time, you know.
-Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “Slow Down”? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Mixtape Cover Art.
The creative process is simple. The music is just experiences I’ve had over a year span but compressed into ten songs. I would do my thing, go to work, party, and hear a beat the next day. Once I heard the beat, I would remember something that went down and write about it.
The cover art was just something a friend of mine drew up. I edited it a little bit and inserted the wall of the studio I recorded this tape in and I signed it. The idea behind the cover is that it’s meant to represent me, and that’s what you’re going to get from this tape: days in the life of me.
-Where can we find your music and info?
You can find my music at:
Basically, if you Google “Turbeazy,” it’s all me. Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, Facebook, it’s all Turbeazy. I try to connect with everyone on most social media platforms.
-Any shout outs?
Definitely shout out to Lyfe $pan music group. Those are the homies. Mike EO guru, Tykush, Ant, CVSSO, Christine Ts and Riahlee: that’s the new family. Kali Mac, Fvst Lyfe or no life. He’s been the bro since our first track together. Shout out to everybody in EBI for giving me a chance: Zay Chino, Ten40one, New Jack, and Mike Guru again. Most importantly, shout out to my pops DJ Shuttle. He’s doing big things right now.
