Doc the Stackboy – “24 Hz” (Album Review)

Bay area emcee Doc the Stackboy drops his new album “24 HZ” produced by William Genaro. Known for creating profound HIP-HOP movements, Oakland is a staple point for fostering musicians & emcees alike. Home to artist like E-40, Mac-Dre & arguably even Tupac Shukar. Surprisingly When I listened to the album the sound was a mix between the east coast & west coast bridging the voids. The 1st track on the album titled “Aint Gotta Lie (2 Kick it)” reminds me of the term Tupac famously said on “R u Still Down” album and more recently by Kendrick Lamar. I liked how Doc made it his own instead of copying the exact cadence of these well-known songs, it shows the artist originality.

“Can’t Tell Me Why” is a mix of turn up & mellow bars, I found my self fully engaged to be disappointed by the short length. Next “Every Where I Go” I didn’t really like this song too much as I felt the hook was boring & lacking intensity & could use more filling. The lyrics within this song are rapid and precise as I can feel whats being said.

“Glitter Aint Gold” starts with banging production that instantly grabs your attention the concept alone gets you thinking whats coming next as the sample created within adds a mysterious effect anticipating the drop in, Right when I heard it I knew it was my fav from the compilation. Next on the tack list is “Prayer Of Forgiveness” The hook made me reminisce of the G-funk era as Doc sings the hook and leads into the next standout cut “In The Moment” the classic production sets this up to be a great track, as soon as it came on I was digging the sonic sound. The soft sample is a great touch I was mesmerized from start to finish.

“My Party” featuring Alexis reminds me of the type of track families will play at family reunions, great atmosphere to joke relax and enjoy the company, I felt the skeleton of the hook needed more but cool vibe. Now towards the end of the album, the last song is titled “wake up”, surely a weed song dedicated to the 420 users & advocates ends the album overall nice album, Doc has a lot of 2pac influences I would like to see how introspective he becomes in coming years. Follow Doc the Stackboy on facebook for new music & updates.
