Isaiah Rashad – Shot You Down [Remix] (ft. Jay Rock & ScHoolboy Q)
I first heard of Isaiah Rashad back in 2012, but like most people I didn’t fully start paying attention to him until 2013. When he got signed to TDE last year on September 20th it assured great things would come from this 22 year old up and comer. With the release of his new EP Cilvia Demo he successfully chiseled his permanent spot in hip-hop. I personally believe it should be considered an album though, since it’s a full 14 solid tracks deep. Overall I would rate Cilvia Demo an 8.3 out of 10, making it one of the best hip-hop albums of 2014 so far.
The instrumental for this song perfectly fits Isaiah’s piercing flow with its mellow flute and heavy drum rendition. The chorus is really damn intoxicating and I feel it brings together all the verses in the song in the best way possible. Jay Rock’s ruggedly sharp verse is also my favorite he’s ever done.
On my list of The 80 Best Hip-Hop Songs of 2013 I ranked Shot You Down [Remix] (ft. Jay Rock & ScHoolboy Q) at #8.
