The Supreme General – “It’s My Turn!!! …The Throne Ascension LP” (Album Review)
Buffalo NY’s own The Supreme General drops his new album “It’s My Turn!!! …The Throne Ascension LP”. The album starts off with an acceleration of energy, emitting high frequency music with a track called “Its My Turn” featuring Jy the Vocalist. The melodic tune sets the tone for the rest of the album as it implements the readiness of the new artist and completion of his new album. Jy the vocalist adds a smooth majestic feel to an already potent song, The Supreme General shows his knowledge of self as he dives into this album with progressive lyrics & uplifting vibes.
The wordplay is the 1st thing that hits the listener in “Gorgeous”, the 1st visual that came to me was the whole team having a ball dancing to this track, for sure made for the fun-loving HIP-HOP fan who loves music that can get the crowd moving. “Fuckin Wit the Best” is all about bars, The Supreme General shows off his rap skills in this one with a trap style HIP-HOP production. “Timeless Essence” hits you in the soul as Gabrielle Parsons comes right in with a translucent sound attributing The Supreme General’s smooth lyrics and creating a reflective atmosphere for the listener to grab ahold of and dissect.
The production of “The Eyes of Real Negus” featuring Walter Barr is amazing, I can feel the radiant presence as the smooth hook rides off the instrumental. This song created a music video in my head instantly. The Supreme General switched his flow and came more rapidly in this segment showing that his lyricism is more dynamic than most thought.
“Best Wishes from a Villain” comes in with a moshpit HIP-HOP sound sure to get the crowd involved. This track gives praise to the hustlers that won’t quit and understand the world will hate on you but the more you don’t care the more product you can move. This song also highlights Supreme General’s psyche and how he feels about the bad guy in the story, it can very much be the rebellious attributes they have in common. The making of a great hero always has a villain to set the tempo of the hero.
“Im that Nigga” wasn’t the greatest song on the album but to each his own as it can very well be a southern hit. The hook didn’t pull me in too much it kinda just passed along, but the lyrics were on point, they alone created music imagery. The next track “Inhale Kush & Exhale Classics” is for the canna bus community rapidly growing in stature. The Supreme General uses his confidence and wordplay pulling in the audience to actually inner-stand his position. As the compilation continues with “Born Winner” this song is about praise of oneself from one aspect to another, light to dark. One of the reasons people in general can’t follow their dreams is because of fear but The Supreme General counters that by showing off his love for his ancestral lineage and who he has become.
“#Gshit” is for the streets, The Supreme General keeps it going with a classic production and a catchy concept that lures the listeners into his web. What amazes me about this song in correlation to the album, is the substance and knowledge within each track he continues to maintain throughout every song. “Got a Hold on Me!!!” the sample based cut does exactly that, bringing back those old school vibes in midst of a new school album. “I Dont Know” is the prefect outro track reciting Kane from Menace 2 Society showing the fickle mind of the artist and human characteristics. This attributes to a growing spirit, for some people the best teacher is experience . Follow The Supreme General on his website for all new music & updates.
