CAPTAIN III (Canada) – "The Outlands" EP /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com
Captain III is an MC/producer hailing from Canada’s east coast. He is one half of the hip-hop collective Ghost Shirt Society, with his collaborator FoxEliJah. His self-proclaimed title of “Raw Resurrector” serves to describe him two-fold: 1. It highlights the raw production and mic mangling he prides himself in. 2. It alludes to the reincarnating nature of the Captain III (Third Incarnate) character. “The Outlands” is Capt. 3’s sophomore EP, a follow-up to his debut, “III”, both produced entirely by him. It is a concept album themed around a desert tribe called the Ghosts and serves as a poetic, metaphorical backstory for GSS. The concept is that each track comes out of Ghost culture; a tribal, rhythmic song that the Outlanders would play together at rituals and gatherings. Some are about their history, some their values, some their folk lore, parables, etc. This project is an unprecedented hip-hop experiment that fuses a new metaphorical culture onto and into the existing culture of hip-hop. It is this blend of the two that makes it unique, because at face value it seems 3 is just talking about life and hip-hop, but in a secondary layer (with the help of FoxEliJah) he is creating and portraying the culture of the Outlands.
